Grey's Anatomy Bend And Break - Season 11-5

Review of Bend and Break, Grey's' Anatomy Season 11 Episode 5 - Written by Brouhaha - PipMaxine

I feel free. Do you feel free? I feel free. Honestly I do. I breathe a little easier now, knowing that Callie and Arizona have finally put us all out of our misery and ended the torture their relationship has been to the viewers. Okay, that’s a little dramatic but let’s face it, watching them recently has not been pretty or comfortable. Don’t get me wrong; over the years I’ve enjoyed watching them and rooting for them to prevail as a couple against the odds. But now, this, this feels right; sad, needed, but right.

Whenever I sit down to write a review I always re-watch the episode. Sometimes, though not this season, that is painfully hard to do (flashbacks to “All About Men” in season eight). At other times, like last week, I spend the time absorbed in the episode again rather than writing, because it was so good. This week I sat down with a heavy heart. That is until the very first line. It was only during this second viewing of Bend and Break I noticed that Arizona gave away the ending in her very first words. She’s such a spoiler. In describing the components of the ‘triad of death’ Dr Robbins effectively nailed the coffin on her marriage before the episode had even got going...

Uncontrollable bleeding, acidosis, cold, the triad of death - the point of no return. She was not describing fixing a broken leg, or even the difficult decision to amputate one. She was describing trying to save what little life is left at the point where it is almost hopeless. It was never going to be a happy ending and I’m vaguely annoyed with myself that I didn’t see that big fat clue from the opening narrative.

Season eleven of Grey’s Anatomy, so far, seems to be the season of specials. Perhaps post Sandra Oh the writers decided to throw the rulebook away and redesign the show. Perhaps they were feeling nostalgic and wanted the editors to do a bit more work by having them go back and paste past clips? Whatever the reason we were treated to a third concentrated episode, delving deeper into one particular relationship to set up a very different kind of reality for these characters for the majority of the season. It’s working too. Bend and Break, while not as good as last week’s epic season buster Meredith centric feast (..and breathe), was a watchable feature that allowed us to look past the superficial and create some closure on a number of unanswered questions.

I did not enjoy the episode, but then I was not supposed to. It was very good, the writing was truly compelling and honest, it was beautiful drama, but it was not pleasant. The outcome was welcome, though the journey painful, for the characters and the viewers. But maybe that was the point? Maybe the writers meant to make viewing awkward and itchy, not only this week but for the last few? Maybe this was a metaphor for their marriage and the story they were telling?

The marriage I refer to of course is Callie and Arizona’s. In 11.05 we finally got to see behind the closed doors of this struggling relationship and what we found was a car crash. Breaking up this couple after all the difficulty of the past few years was the kindest thing Shonda could do; kindness to the season, to the viewer, to the actors. It now gives us the opportunity to get to know both of these characters as individuals again rather than as a couple. It will make them both more interesting and watchable. It may even make them fun again and in the end it may bring them back together as a couple.

Very quickly into the episode we were introduced to the couple’s therapy sessions and finally some dissection of the issues plaguing their relationship. Both women were irritating throughout and at times intolerable. Callie with her emotional whining self-absorption, Arizona with her self-interested clinical detachment. We saw the worst versions of them and this was deliberate. They were lost, to themselves and in themselves. Through their very different experiences of separation they emerge from the silos, one needy the other free. Arizona’s discovery is that she ‘needs’ Callie but we already knew this. This was her breakthrough in season nine. For her this separation was merely an affirmation of that and through her epic failure at work having the break consolidated that need, but she said nothing about her marriage or imagining life from Callie’s point of view. This is what motivates Callie’s epiphany. The effort of ‘fixing’ is tearing her down. The more Callie heard from Arizona the more she realized that happiness starts with self-love and it is absent. The freedom she felt was the separation from Arizona’s need. It wasn’t from Arizona, for it was clear throughout this episode that these two love each other hard. With grace and love and a commitment to shared parenting Callie tore them apart, for the good of them both. When it came it made complete sense. The only surprise perhaps was that Callie and not Arizona delivered the fatal line. Did you see that coming?

The writing was not wholly satisfactory though. While it is wonderful that Callie laughed during her 30 days and did lots of stuff, those in themselves should be benefits to a marriage not drawbacks. Relationships thrive when we get to have our own separate interests and passions away from couple-dom. This is what worked about Callie’s relationship with Mark. Yes it was problematic because of the parenting storyline, but over all she had her social release, her friendships away from her wife. And did she really do that much in the 30 days? I’ve seen Callie be much more hardcore and bad ass before, even within the marriage. Part of this was functional character linking. Bringing Meredith and Callie together as social partners opens up a new (or renewed from season nine) relationship avenue for the writers to exploit. Which brings me to the second unsatisfactory point – where was Bailey? Callie tells Meredith she has no one to talk to. Really? What happened to Bailey? Saying that, I would not take away from this new tequila twosome at all. Their vagina duologue track was possibly the very best scene to come out of the writer’s room in a very long time. I’m excited to see more of Meredith and Callie together.

Though the marriage may be over I remain of the view that this is an end game couple. Subject to the actors’ own plans and decisions I can see Shondaland taking Callie and Arizona on a long journey to self-love circling back to each other. They may entangle themselves with others, they may even self destruct first but until shown otherwise the writers will eventually keep the faith.
The love, the passion, remains. Though it’s worth remembering that this is Grey’s Anatomy so this is to be expected - Mark/Lexie, Cristina/Owen, Cristina/Burke, Alex/Izzie. The big relationships rarely fail in Grey’s because people just don’t love each other anymore.

Bend and Break did not break me. It energized me to see what the writers have in store for these two. I came away both relieved and excited, ready for the fall out and new adventures.

In case you missed it:
Did you notice a similarity in Callie’s break up speech to that given by Arizona at the airport”
7.07, That’s Me Trying: “You stay here and be happy and I'll go there and be happy”
11.05, Bend and Break: “I should love me, and you should love you, and together we love Sofia...”

What was Arizona wearing?
Callie swigging from a bottle of wine – is that normal?
Arizona has still not said she doesn’t want another child - foreshadow?

Meredith’s musings on Cristina as her true love and the glue in her relationship with Derek – very attuned piece of self awareness almost drowned out by tequila and vaginas.

So tell me...did an iceberg hit your ship?

EDIT: Oh my. I forgot one of my key closing points.
Callie beware. Callie beware. The choice you made may come around to bite you. The fall out of this will be a very angry Arizona. Callie has made this decision and we know that one of Arizona's real issues is that in her eyes Callie makes the decisions for her:
"I regret that you made a decision for me. You make all the choices and every time that I try to make a decision for myself its like you make me feel like I'm the most selfish person in the world."

Grey's Anatomy Is Back For Season 11

Today I am just popping in to give you all my opinion on the first two episodes of Grey's

I have to admit that I am pretty impressed, despite the fact that I thought the loss of Cristina (who was my favourite) would hurt like Hell, and I would not be able to watch for this reason. Although I really missed her, I really loved the first two episodes. This season is looking like it might be pretty good. Having said that, I am also cautious, as I have been disappointed before. From about Season 6, it has seemed as though Grey's starts out well and it is really entertaining, however as we get to the middle of the season, something happens to drag it down.

So as usual, I feel cautiously optimistic about Season 11. And, no I have not gotten around to watching the next two episodes, but that is simply about time. I actually cannot wait to sit down and watch them, however I have had lots of writing to do lately and a lot of medical appointments. Not watching episode 3 and 4 does not mean that I am not interested in my Grey's anymore. Not on your life, I'll be here until the end.

I have high hopes for the story of Richard and his long, lost daughter and Meredith's part in this also, even though I was worried that this would be Lexie 2.0, I think the writers are doing well with these stories. I am also excited about what will happen with Derek and Meredith as I have been picking up little bits of information on Twitter and Facebook that all is not well with the McDreamys. Callie and Arizona's story is kind of frustrating me, I guess that is because I don't want a repeat of more angst with these two. We saw enough of that in Season 9 and 10. What I do want to see is more Alex and it is looking as though I will get my wish granted here. Please, please Shonda Rhimes, more Alex Karev. I just wish he did not come with Jo Wilson; I so loved it when Meredith kicked her out of bed. I  howled with laughter so hard, that I cried. Hilarious.

Anyway, I will try and find some time to watch the episodes I have not seen, including episode 5 which is coming up on the 24th October and pop back here and let you all know what I think. I will also post the review of episode 2 by Brouhaha, as her reviews are so great to read and I really want to share Brouhaha's writing with all of my readers.

So until next time; I'll leave it with you to have your say in the comment or you can connect with me at the links to my Grey's Anatomy Facebook and Twitter pages below.

Are You Ready For Grey's Anatomy Season 10?

Meredith, Cristina, Derek and all of our favorite doctors will be back on our screens in Season 10 in a matter of days.

If you wish to remain spoiler free for the premiere, then stop reading now!

So fans; do you have a wish list for Season 10? And do you think we have seen the last of Lauren, the home wrecker, Richard (the real chief of Grey+Sloan Memorial Hospital or is Heather Brooks going to leave the show in a body bag instead?

If the rumors getting around are correct, then Heather Brooks is sent on an errand, courtesy of Shane who is pissed at her for becoming Derek Shepherd's favorite intern, and apparently it is Heather who discover Richard, who has been electrocuted whilst turning the power back on in the hospital.

Shonda Rhimes recently posted a photo to her WhoSay account and then tweeted the word "crap" on Twitter, which was soon deleted, along with the picture of Richard at the 200th episode table read. The plot thickens, and it does make me wonder if Shonda is playing games with her fans. James Pickens Jnr was also photographed at the celebrations for the 200th episode, however even if the character of Richard does die, surely he would be invited to celebrate with the cast anyway. So I don't know what to think here.

In other news Shonda Rhimes has just welcomed another baby into her growing family, having recently adopted a daughter; news about the new arrival's name has not been released to my knowledge. So congratulations to Shonda on her new daughter, she must be one busy lady right now. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news sometime yesterday.

Another weird little tit bit of information was Patrick Dempsey referring to a photo of Ellen Pompeo, himself and their onscreen son. He tweeted that this was the photo from when he first showed Meredith their son, which is somewhat weird as he showed her the baby before taking him up to the pediatric ward and there was a scene at the end of the Season Finale of Derek, Meredith, Zola and Bailey all gathered together in Meredith's hospital room, enjoying a special family moment. Unless it is a flashback; I really hope that Shonda does go down the road of the entire Season Finale being a dream of some sort; that would suck and be too soapy for my taste. Apparently, according to Shonda Rhimes' Twitter, Derek and Meredith's new baby boy is named Derek Bailey Shepherd. Not sure I like the fact they named bub after his father. I would have preferred Chris or Christopher, but Christopher Bailey Shepherd would be a mouthful and my guess is that Christopher is Derek's fathers' name. I have no evidence to support that claim, it is just a guess.

All I can say is all of this is very intriguing and despite the fact that I have this blog which I totally love writing as it is about my favorite show, Grey's Anatomy, I try to steer clear of spoilers for Season Premieres and Season Finals. Now I know Shonda Rhimes hates anyone calling her shows a "Guilty Pleasure" but I am very sorry Shonda; my words are a compliment. This blog is what I work on when I want a break from my online freelance writing jobs, and I get to write about something I totally love. "Guilty Pleasure" is not an insult to Shonda's shows, in fact I have watched all of Shonda Rhimes' shows and I adore all of them, however Grey's Anatomy is the best work Ms Rhimes has ever done. It run rings around Private Practice and Scandal, even though they are and were great shows in their own special way. I miss Private Practice, and I miss Kate Walsh and Benjamin Bratt (hot, sexy, sensitive, and hot!). Benjamin Bratt portrayed Jake Riley and he was only on Private Practice for two seasons, yet he was my McDreamy in that show.

So what I was saying before I got side-tracked with 'guilty pleasures' and Benjamin Bratt, is that it is hard to update a Grey's blog when you avoid spoilers as much as I do, however I only usually do this at certain times during the season. I mean let's face it, we all knew Mark was a goner before last season even went to air, when he announced he was leaving in July, everyone figured he would be killed off. It was the only story that made sense for Mark Sloan and I commend Shonda for the effort she and her creative team put in to give McSteamy the exit he so deserved.

So what do we all think is going to happen with Calzona? Are they headed for splitsville? Perhaps this will be the season of breakups as a fan said to me recently. I have no doubt that Owen and Cristina will go their separate ways. Shonda and her writers made a mess of that story line, it just went on too long and it really would have been better if Owen and Cristina has broken up and stayed that way, because I am not looking forward to another season of sad, depressed Owen Hunt.

Arizona's cheating with the hot doctor from last season cannot just be glossed over, Callie is going to have to deal with the fact that she has been cheated on a second time. What I would like to see is the two of them in therapy and Arizona in therapy alone, so she can figure out why she cheated and convey this to Callie and hopefully they can work out their issues. Some of the fans are stumped on why she would cheat, but I thing it was the fact the Callie made a promise in episode two, that she would not take the leg and in the end she had to, to save Arizona's life. It is the broken promise that is the issue here and it does not go back to Africa, or Callie bonking Mark in Season 7, resulting in a pregnancy. I feel as though they were in a good place up until the plane crash.

I miss scenes like this one

I am from Australia and I watch it online once it has gone to air in the US, legally of course. I do not know how to live stream and this is something I am going to learn so I can Tweet and Facebook live while the show is being aired in the US. I really think that I am just going to have to get over myself and read all the spoilers and news so that I can share these with my fans who follow this blog. For a hobby, I am not doing to bad at all, I started this blog last year and I have had around 36,000 visitors so far, and fans are starting to follow through Facebook and Twitter, which is really awesome, so thank you to everyone who reads my blog every time I update it, I really appreciate the support. This is what I love about Grey's Anatomy, it brings people together who get one another, and for people who do not watch the show, well they just don't get it; which is fine, each to their own.

Anyway today is Sunday in Australia, so I have five days to wait until Friday at around 3pm, which is usually when I manage to find the episode to watch online. I have been counting the days until it starts in the US and I will be even more thrilled if the Australian TV Networks fast-track the show, so I can watch it live every week and Tweet my Australian fans. Anyway that gripe is for another blog post. Take it easy and enjoy Grey's Anatomy on Thursday night. It cannot come quick enough for me.

Grey's Anatomy - I Saw Her Standing There Season 9 - 4 Postmortem

Grey's Anatomy - I Saw Her Standing There; Aired in the US 25 Oct 2012, and in Australia on 30 Oct 2012. There will be another break in the US and here in Australia due to US election stuff being on TV. The next Grey's Anatomy episode; "Beautiful Doom" will be shown in the US on Nov, 8, 2012 and in Australia on Nov 13, 2012.

Well I have to say after watching the other night I am so disappointed with the writers about Cristina's new sex-friend. Yuck; I don't like him, they have no chemistry; just Yuck. Last night's episode was the first where I actually wanted to throw things at the TV. However, this turn of events (Cristina's obvious need to indulge in casual sex) was probably the worst of it. The rest of the episode was pretty good.

Cristina's new sex buddy, not for long however

The so-called affair with Dr Parker was probably over before it started once Cristina cottoned on to his plans to get rid of Dr Thomas. Obviously Cristina is not okay with her colleague and superiors' underhanded methods to force Dr Thomas to retire and I'm not surprised. I have never known Cristina to be okay with being used, and I certainly don't believe that she would support such sneaky, back-stabbing tactics. The part that I really enjoyed was when she and Dr Thomas were at a bar, and he explained that he knew what they were up to, and showed her the cheap watch he was given a few years back as a hint to retire. He explains to Cristina the only reason he wears it, is to passively and aggressively rub it in their faces. So it would seem that Cristina now has his back, given that she helped him out during the heart procedure they performed together. Can she bring him to Seattle Grace, if she has to come back there? Why should she come back, Owen should go there and fight to get his wife back. Just a thought.

Arizona and Callie's story progressed this week and in a real way, it was nice to see Arizona smile. I loved David, and I cannot think where in the heck I've seen him before. Can anyone help with that? He looks so familiar to me. It was nice that Arizona reached out to Callie at the end. They've a long way to go, but I have hope that they will be okay. The scene between Arizona and Alex was very touching too; I just hope that Alex gets a decent story this season, I always did enjoy him and Arizona working together, but I'm also wondering what will happen when she finds out that Alex was the one who cut off her leg. It seems as though Callie is letting Arizona think that she did it.

Derek's moment in the gallery with Owen when he tells him that Meredith is bubble wrapping him was cute and I really loved Owen's speech and his speech also worked for Callie too. But he really must think that Cristina is lost to him if he can say to Derek that she's not coming back. What was with Owen going to stay at the trailer? He has a home; it's not like Cristina sold the place they were living at. And I enjoyed seeing Derek the teacher, it was a refreshing change. I have to wonder whether he will operate again in the near future or will his career revert to teaching other's. Let's face it, he is a world class surgeon, top of his field; he would have so much he could pass onto the younger surgeons.

I am torn about Katherine and Richard. I like Debbie Allen and the character of Katherine Avery, however I really miss Adele and I'm wondering when Shonda is going to re-visit what's going on with Adele. Loretta Devine is a fabulous actress, and I love all of her scenes on Grey's, so the hope is that we will get to see where Adele is at with her illness soon. And again I'm a little tired of Jackson and April's nonsense.

Bailey and Meredith's banter over her once in a lifetime tumor was funny. It's like the shoes on the other foot now. When they were interns and residents, they had to beg to even be allowed inside the OR, now Meredith can simply tell Bailey she's not stealing her surgery. While it was funny to see the shoe on the other foot; I had to wonder, wouldn't the head of the department have the final say on who took that surgery. But really; it's Shondaland, since when do they follow protocol.

So what did you think of 'I Saw Her Standing There?' Is this season shaping up to be better than past seasons? Have you say right here in the comments or get on Facebook or Twitter to talk about it.

Grey's Anatomy Season 9 - 2: Remember The Time, Episode Review

On Grey's Anatomy, in a series of flashbacks; we re-visit what our favourite medics went through out there lost in the woods for four days. Fans felt that this was unrealistic, however they were lost in thick bush-land and recently a plane crashed here in Queensland, and it took two full days to find that plane. I think it's possible. And it's TV, so we suspend reality to a point.

Twisted Sisters

Lost in the woods for four, long nights, trying to survive and keep each other alive. No food, very little water and unable to start a fire to keep warm; they managed to stay alive; just. We all know what became of Mark, however he was alive when they were rescued; thanks to Cristina. Animals fighting over Lexie's body, and Cristina desperately trying to keep bugs away from Arizona's leg, not to mention Mark who kept dying. Yet Cristina managed to keep them all alive and once they are rescued Cristina falls into a catatonic state. Hats off to Sandra Oh; when will the industry wake up and give this woman an Emmy? Cristina in the bath explaining to Owen what happened over those four days gave me chills and on watching it again for the fourth time to write this post; the chills were still there. She is flawless in every single scene.

Poor Lexie, but it's actually true that those events would take place in a real-life situation. I even found myself softening up a little towards Owen. He was so calm and patient; his obvious concern and love for his wife gave me hope that they might make it. Do many couples get past infidelity? And can they overcome the abortion and no children issue? Seems like a deal-breaker to me, but I also believe that if you really love your partner, you will move heaven and earth to make it work.

Mark died twice in two episodes and I cried both times

The episode told each characters story about the crash in a sequence of flashbacks; starting with Derek and Meredith, Cristina, Mark, and Arizona. It was a little confusing understanding the time-line and sequence of events, however it was so well filmed, written and acted; I can forgive this oversight. Mark dying again had me tearing up, which to me means Shonda Rhimes and Co did a fantastic job with this episode. I would even go as far to say it was the best Grey's episode in a long time. I am so hoping that we are back to the good old days of Grey's Anatomy; where every episode had me on the edge of my seat, feeling tense and anxious and very grateful for the funny one liners that were thrown in amongst the darkness.

It's certainly looking like an interesting story for Derek Shepherd with his hand. If you remember in the last episode his hand went numb during surgery, so we could see him doing something different this season. It was great to see Meredith by his side, encouraging him not to give up. However, it is only a matter of time before she breaks. This is typical Meredith, she runs around making sure everyone else is okay, and then falls apart. Remember after the shooting; it was halfway through the season before Meredith admitted that she was feeling traumatized too. It's also looking like Callie and Derek become close this season. Having lost their best friend Mark; I would not be surprised if they bonded over this.

Callie and Arizona's story is looking like being very interesting, given the situation with Arizona losing her leg and Callie giving Alex the order to do the amputation. Not sure that I really want to see Arizona blaming Alex for the rest of the season or Callie for that matter, but I doubt that this is where the writers are going. There is an opportunity here for the writers to show a different side to Arizona, as we really have not seen her dark side. And Alex; give the guy a break. No more dumping on Alex. He needs to find a good woman and settle down.

In concluding this review, I just want to add how much I loved April's "Come on Yang; I'm wide open. Hit me!" Or something along those lines. And not to be nit-picky, but why was April wearing resident scrubs? She is an attending; just not a board certified attending surgeon. Whether Owen fired her or not, she is still an attending. I don't know why, but mistakes like this really annoy me and I'm shocked that I haven't seen anyone on the TWOP board raise this issue.

Really gonna to miss McSteamy

So after episode two, I have to say this is a great start; especially for a show that is into it's ninth year. But I'm not getting excited just yet; Season 8 started out really well too, but in all fairness; these two episodes kicked ass over the Season 8 premiere.

All You Need Is Love - Grey's Anatomy Season 8-14 - Postmortem

Valentine's Day

After the virtual reality episode last week; it was great to get back to the characters’ lives in the real Grey’s Anatomy world. When we last saw the Grey’s docs they were all congregated at a party at Meredith and Derek’s in honor of Zola’s first birthday. Owen had just told the entire hospital at the top of his voice that Cristina had killed their baby and apart from Meredith; nobody else knew about it. Arizona and Callie were pushing Mark towards a serious relationship with Julia, when he told them to back off. Is Mark still in love with Lexie? Most Mark and Lexie shippers are hoping so.

Meredith and Derek Aren’t Getting Any……

Our golden couple can’t seem to get any intimate time together. The running into the bathroom, because of the baby in the bed, then the sofa; before they realise Lexie is there watching TV. So then it’s out to car, and wouldn’t you know it? The baby wakes up and Lexie is banging on the window. She offers to watch Zola, so her sister and husband can get some alone time.

By the time their day is over at the hospital; Meredith chasing a suspected tumor that is attacking her patient’s brain and causing seizures; it was a wonder they had the energy.

Cristina and Owen are in a Bad Place

These two are barely speaking to each other let alone celebrating their love on Valentine’s Day. Cristina insists that Owen put her back on Teddy’s service, and he agrees. Apart from Owen announcing he is moving out, that’s about all they have to say. Even the car crashing through the ER doors and almost killing them was not a big enough event for them to start talking. This does not come as a surprise for these two. Cristina was never one to talk about her feelings, and Owen may well be the opposite, however these conversations take two people to participate.

The obvious impasse that Cristina and Owen have reached in their marriage has begun to get depressing in my opinion and I’m sure I speak for many shippers of this couple when I wonder how in the heck will they to resolve this issue. Owen obviously sees a life with children and Cristina doesn’t and never has. Cristina’s feelings on having a child were apparent to me in Season 2 when she scheduled an abortion.

On the other hand though, the scene in the fan room gave me a small feeling of hope for them, especially when Cristina begs Owen not to hate her. It was good to see them in their special place again and brought back memories of Season 5 when they had not long met and romance was blooming.

Lexie has an Epiphany About Mark

It took a patient dying before he could propose to his girlfriend of eight years to get it through her thick head that she should tell Mark she loves him. After the patient codes and dies, Lexie finds a necklace with a little note inside that reads “will you marry me.” Except his girlfriend didn’t know and he never got the chance to tell her. So Lexie decides to take Zola over to Mark’s house for a play-date with Sofia in the hope that she can fess up the truth. But as luck would have it Jackson is there cooking Mark dinner in return for help studying for the boards, not exactly a good time for a heart to heart. But that was where Shonda left it. We can only guess at whether Lexie stayed for an uncomfortable dinner with her two exes or did she leave. Or best case scenario; hopefully Jackson left to let them talk. Believe me, I wasn’t holding my breath.

Teddy Tells Owen She Hates Him

While I felt Owen had a long speech coming from Teddy, even if none of it was his fault, which it wasn’t; Teddy went too far. She is grieving and usually our anger during that grief is directed at someone we love. But comparing Owen to dead soldiers, good men who died for their country was below the belt even for Teddy’s character. Yes it’s a TV show, and its fiction and Teddy is plenty angry with grief; but she didn’t mean most of what she said. The whole scene just made me feel uncomfortable; I can’t describe it.

I did enjoy Teddy and Cristina’s interaction, even though it was brief. Poor Teddy wants nothing to do with Owen; and Cristina wants nothing more than to fix her issue with Owen. Her worst fear; as we found out at the end, is that Owen hates her.

Arizona and Callie were Camping?

No; not really. Arizona was terrified that they were going camping for Valentine’s Day, but Callie had another plan. She borrowed Derek’s trailer and decorated it to fit the occasion and Arizona could not have been more relieved when she found out she would not be making love to her wife on the cold, hard ground.

Alex’s patient with the peanut allergy was cute. Although I found it a little hard to take seriously, given they were ten. The whole head lice issue was a riot. It reminded me of when my kid was ten and we had to deal with those issues at school. Those two parents brought the funny in these scenes. I was little confused as to why Arizona was absent from this storyline, given she is head of peds and Alex’s boss. I guess fighting with Mark about babysitters was more important.

This was not the best episode of Grey’s I have watched this season, however it was pretty good. Next week we have the crossover episode with Private Practice. Amelia comes to Seattle to convince her brother Derek to help her save Erica’s life. I love Amelia on Private Practice, so both episodes are worth a look simply to watch her and Derek duke it out. You just know he’s going to give her a hard time.

Season 7's 'White Wedding' - Fans Were Treated to Two Weddings

Last year I blogged about this wedding, however I kept the information to a minimum and the photos as I did not wish to ruin it for people living in countries that had not seen the episode. However I think fans are wishing Shonda and her crew had cut down on the amount of stories they told in this episode.

Callie and Arizona's Wedding

There were actually two weddings in this episode, Callie and Arizona's traditional white wedding, both ladies looking absolutely beautiful. The wedding was planned to take place in a lovely old church with a minister as Callie is very much catholic, she moved heaven and earth so to speak to find a minister who would marry them. She also had an exact copy of the same veil made that her mother wore on her wedding day.

At the beginning of the episode Callie and Arizona are sitting down to dinner with their respective parents. It is obvious from the start that Callie's mother has a problem with the life her daughter has chosen. How could you not want to hold your grandbaby? Oh dear; problem brewing here. Callie's father could not get enough of his grandchild, and neither could Arizona's parents. The only person not on board with their wedding, and prospective life together and their baby Sofia was Callie's mother. And it came out later on that Callie's mum was a lawyer and her secretary was gay. It took awhile for Callie's father to get on board and I would have hoped that her mother would have been supportive too, but it was not to be and I felt really sorry for Callie.

Callie shows her Mother the veil she had made

Callie almost died a few months earlier in that horrible car crash. Where in the heck was her judgemental mother then? Where in the heck were any of them for that matter? Why were they not there in "It's a Long Way Back?" That they showed up for the wedding and the fact that Callie and the baby almost died was not even talked about. Parents are meant to show up for their children, especially when one of them almost dies. This story did not sit well with me.

Then to make matters worse, the minister's wife gets into a car accident and he cannot make the wedding which upsets Callie; for her it is the final straw. "There's not going to be a wedding" is what she says on finding out about the minister. Fortunately help arrives in the shape of Bailey who gives Callie a huge speech about commitment to the person you love and God and the law don't matter. They move the ceremony outdoors, and Bailey officiates.

Mr. and Mrs. Torres? Robbins?

Callie and Arizona Say "I Do."

Meredith and Derek's Wedding

Derek and Meredith tie the knot at City Hall. Recently Derek and Meredith discussed adopting six month old Zola from Africa, whom Alex had arranged to come to Seattle Grace for a much needed surgery. Apparently for Derek and Meredith to be successful in adopting this baby, they needed to get married. Perhaps this had something to do with the overseas adoption process, however I thought it was lame, because single people adopt and gay couples do too. In any case, a quickie wedding appointment was made at City Hall where Derek and Meredith made it official.

Their ceremony took place at the same time as Callie and Arizona's. While MerDer fans are over the moon that their favourite couple have made their union legal; the post it wedding will always hold the sentiment in most of our hearts. That day in the residents lounge will stay in my memory forever and when Derek and Meredith fall on hard times, it will be the 'post it' they refer to. And fans will see this happen in Season 8.

Meredith and Derek go back to the hospital on their way to Callie and Arizona's wedding reception to visit Zola. They don't make it to the wedding in the end as they can't tear themselves away from the beautiful baby that could be their daughter. Derek cuddling Zola was one of the cutest scenes we've seen in a long time. The chemistry between Patrick and the baby is awesome. I could watch it all day.

The Big Decision

Derek and Meredith make it Official at last

Arizona and Callie fans claimed they would have loved to see more of the wedding and that the episode contained too many stories. The African children that Alex Karev brought over for much needed surgeries arc took up way too much of the episode. Then we had April's drama with Dr Stark (who I won't be sorry to see go). And then we had Meredith's dramas with the adoption social worker and freaking out about Alex opening his mouth to Derek about the Alzhiemers trial.

This, to me as a long time fan was disappointing. Alex and the African children was a genius storyline and showed us the softer side of Alex even if his motives are about winning Chief resident. It's like Arizona says in episode 14, "I'll teach him to be less of an ass, but I don't have to teach him how to care." So it was frustrating that we did not get to see more of this story arc because it was great an could have been developed further. Many fans felt as though the last three episodes were overloaded with too many story arcs. Perhaps Shonda Rhimes should have stuck with the usual plan of writing twenty-four episodes instead of only twenty-two. Obviously there was a good reason for this, perhaps the network had other commitments and Shonda wasn't informed early enough, so quite a few ongoing story arcs had to be crammed into the final few episodes. The scripts are written way in advance and Shonda usually always pitches the end of the season before she even starts writing the beginning.

Unfortunatley the wedding of Callie and Arizona was not enough for the die hard Calzona fans, especially after all these two wonderful women went through to get to their happy day. It's true that less is more, but there was not enough. It all seemed rushed. And in the final two episodes we barely see Arizona and Callie together, it's as if we are to assume that they are happy, giddy newly wedded brides. Calzona fans would have loved seeing that happiness, especially after all they went through in the past year.

     Arizona returns from Africa

The reason for this was obviously was to set up the finale, which will concentrate on the loves and lives of the three originals: Meredith, Cristina and Alex. Because next season is when their contracts expire, the focus will be placed on these characters in Season 8.
