Love The One You're With - Grey Anatomy Season 9 - 3: Post-Mortem

The third installment of of Grey's Anatomy Season 9 didn't top the first two of the Season, however 'Love the One You're With' came close. And ratings in the US are still higher than what they were at this point in the Season last year.

For the most part I enjoyed "Love the One You're With." Along with the seriousness of the law suit, there were moments of really well acted comedy; especially the scene with Meredith and Jackson in the scrub-room. The moment where Jackson tells Meredith that his mother is bonked the Chief was classic, especially Meredith's face before Jackson tells her it's Dr Webber he's referring to, not Owen. The April re-virginising story had me cringing and I would think most people who are Christian or Catholic or anyone who worships Jesus would have felt insulted by this arc. They are using April's love for Jesus as comedy. As someone who was raised with strict religious beliefs it just does not sit well with me. And why were Jackson and April on my screen so much. I could not give a diddly squat about what happens to them. Why is April there at all? Sarah Drew, the actress is actually very talented, so either give her better material Shonda, or fire her now, because April's story sucks at the moment and for mine, it makes a mockery of Christian beliefs. As for Jackson, well at least he's nice to look at, but where are the writers going with his story; not that I really care, but it just feels like he still does not have a purpose, especially now that Mark is gone. At least in Season 8 we got to see the 'plastics posse' in action, and part of that action was the awesome and sexy McSteamy, but he's gone now, so where are they going with Jackson?

Apart from April and Jackson overkill, I loved the phone calls between Cristina and Owen, it would seem that they are both unable to let go. And then Cristina towards to end telling Owen that they cannot do this anymore and to have the lawyers contact her regarding the settlement. The settlement part of this episode had me very confused as I'm unsure as to why they decided not to take it. Perhaps they think they can get more money if they go on with legal action. But it seemed as though everyone was offered a generous amount of money.

I guess I did not like the whole 'it has to be unanimous' because you would think that every individual involved in the plane crash would be offered a separate settlement agreement. If you compare say Meredith who was virtually unharmed, and Arizona who lost a leg, or Mark who is dead, then there would be separate agreement for all the victims of the crash. And I also did not like that no-one stood up for Lexie. Meredith never once said that she was there on Lexie's behalf. But that's just my nit picky mind, it just goes there. What really concerns me is whether they will just gloss over the fact that Meredith lost her sister or will we see her deal with that grief. I really hate it when the writers abort a story-line and we do not see the outcome of it. Another issue that I had and many fans did too, was Derek being allowed to go look at the plane, that just would not have happened in real-life. But I guess we are meant to suspend our belief because it's a drama TV series.

I am so loving Cristina and Dr Thomas; and I don't want to see Cristina back in Seattle anytime soon. I would actually love it if Owen went there to try and win her back and stayed there permanently, so far this dual location thing is working for me, except the stupid snow storms in Minnesota. They do happen; don't get me wrong, but not all the time and especially not so much in Sept/Oct which is where we are supposed to be time-wise. And if I'm wrong and it's supposed to be July/August then it is even more ridiculous given that it would be summer or late summer. Cristina and Dr Thomas in that last scene, were awesome, I loved it. I'm not sure why he is carrying around a pack of cigarettes, that was not explained; but it was kind of funny when he told Cristina that everything kill us (I can't remember his exact words). It seemed as though he was trying to make a point and then decided against it.

Callie and Arizona's scenes were great this week too and actually like what they are doing with this story, I just pray the writers do it justice. I also loved Callie's banter with Alex regarding his whoring around, and her speech to the intern who was flirting with her. However I do agree with many posters on the forums who said she should have told the intern she was married before giving the speech. The parents of the patient with the severed foot asked Callie to keep their daughter in the hospital, because she was going to off sailing again regardless of the damage it would do. Callie told them that they have to be the bad guys here because they are her parents; it was so obvious she was referring to her own life. Especially when she was confronted with Arizona on the floor of the bathroom sitting in her own pee. That shower scene had me in tears and that's when I feel the writers are getting things right. If I'm laughing, crying or holding my breath then it's working for me. If I am throwing things or shouting at the TV, then it's not working.

Meredith and Jackson in the scrub room was probably the funniest scene I've seen on Grey's in a long time, which gives me hope for this season and a possible friendship between Jackson and Meredith. I would dig that, as long as they don't end up sleeping together, then that's okay with me. I also loved Bailey's post it notes and the scene when she overhears Jackson and April talking, the look on Bailey's face is just priceless.

Overall a great episode. If I had to criticise anything it would be too much April. Perhaps if she got a decent story instead of making a mockery of Christianity for comedy's sake then I may be able to take this character seriously, but so far I cannot and she has been on my TV screen for over three years. And last, but not least; don't you just love the McMansion? It's taken 5 seasons, and finally Derek and Meredith are living in their dream house. I totally loved the scene with Derek sitting outside with the view of Seattle behind him.

Grey's Anatomy Season 9 - 2: Remember The Time, Episode Review

On Grey's Anatomy, in a series of flashbacks; we re-visit what our favourite medics went through out there lost in the woods for four days. Fans felt that this was unrealistic, however they were lost in thick bush-land and recently a plane crashed here in Queensland, and it took two full days to find that plane. I think it's possible. And it's TV, so we suspend reality to a point.

Twisted Sisters

Lost in the woods for four, long nights, trying to survive and keep each other alive. No food, very little water and unable to start a fire to keep warm; they managed to stay alive; just. We all know what became of Mark, however he was alive when they were rescued; thanks to Cristina. Animals fighting over Lexie's body, and Cristina desperately trying to keep bugs away from Arizona's leg, not to mention Mark who kept dying. Yet Cristina managed to keep them all alive and once they are rescued Cristina falls into a catatonic state. Hats off to Sandra Oh; when will the industry wake up and give this woman an Emmy? Cristina in the bath explaining to Owen what happened over those four days gave me chills and on watching it again for the fourth time to write this post; the chills were still there. She is flawless in every single scene.

Poor Lexie, but it's actually true that those events would take place in a real-life situation. I even found myself softening up a little towards Owen. He was so calm and patient; his obvious concern and love for his wife gave me hope that they might make it. Do many couples get past infidelity? And can they overcome the abortion and no children issue? Seems like a deal-breaker to me, but I also believe that if you really love your partner, you will move heaven and earth to make it work.

Mark died twice in two episodes and I cried both times

The episode told each characters story about the crash in a sequence of flashbacks; starting with Derek and Meredith, Cristina, Mark, and Arizona. It was a little confusing understanding the time-line and sequence of events, however it was so well filmed, written and acted; I can forgive this oversight. Mark dying again had me tearing up, which to me means Shonda Rhimes and Co did a fantastic job with this episode. I would even go as far to say it was the best Grey's episode in a long time. I am so hoping that we are back to the good old days of Grey's Anatomy; where every episode had me on the edge of my seat, feeling tense and anxious and very grateful for the funny one liners that were thrown in amongst the darkness.

It's certainly looking like an interesting story for Derek Shepherd with his hand. If you remember in the last episode his hand went numb during surgery, so we could see him doing something different this season. It was great to see Meredith by his side, encouraging him not to give up. However, it is only a matter of time before she breaks. This is typical Meredith, she runs around making sure everyone else is okay, and then falls apart. Remember after the shooting; it was halfway through the season before Meredith admitted that she was feeling traumatized too. It's also looking like Callie and Derek become close this season. Having lost their best friend Mark; I would not be surprised if they bonded over this.

Callie and Arizona's story is looking like being very interesting, given the situation with Arizona losing her leg and Callie giving Alex the order to do the amputation. Not sure that I really want to see Arizona blaming Alex for the rest of the season or Callie for that matter, but I doubt that this is where the writers are going. There is an opportunity here for the writers to show a different side to Arizona, as we really have not seen her dark side. And Alex; give the guy a break. No more dumping on Alex. He needs to find a good woman and settle down.

In concluding this review, I just want to add how much I loved April's "Come on Yang; I'm wide open. Hit me!" Or something along those lines. And not to be nit-picky, but why was April wearing resident scrubs? She is an attending; just not a board certified attending surgeon. Whether Owen fired her or not, she is still an attending. I don't know why, but mistakes like this really annoy me and I'm shocked that I haven't seen anyone on the TWOP board raise this issue.

Really gonna to miss McSteamy

So after episode two, I have to say this is a great start; especially for a show that is into it's ninth year. But I'm not getting excited just yet; Season 8 started out really well too, but in all fairness; these two episodes kicked ass over the Season 8 premiere.

Grey's Anatomy Season 9 - Six Possible Scenarios For Arizona Robbins

18 August 2012

As we get closer to the Season 9 Premiere, many fans, critics and writer's are speculating on the fate of the remaining five doctors. Given that nothing has been made public about Arizona; this has fans plenty worried.

The following article and picture is courtesy of Grey's Anatomy Wetpaint, a popular online blog that regularly publishes interesting information and gossip about Grey's characters and story arcs.

Grey's Anatomy Season 9 Speculation: Six Post-Plane Crash Fates for Arizona

Arizona on the Grey's Anatomy Season 8 Finale
One of the biggest questions on manyGrey's Anatomy fans’ minds right now is what will happen toArizona Robbins(Jessica Capshaw) inSeason 9? She's the only character whose fate is still very up in the air, and showrunner Shonda Rhimes remainsfrustratingly crypticabout how the crash will affect her.

In an attempt to quell our fears that the worst will happen, we've been brainstorming the many different ways Arizona's story could go. Here's what we've come up with.

1. She dies: This one needs no explanation. All we can do is cross our fingers that it doesn't happen.

2. She loses her leg: The last time we saw her, Arizona had a bone sticking out of her leg. This would be a hugely dramatic twist, and would explain why Shonda Rhimes says that Arizona's fate has a big impact onCallie (Sara Ramirez), since having to help your wife through something like this is obviously pretty all-consuming.
3. She is permanently crippled: The slightly less dramatic version of her losing her leg. As anyone who watched House knows, a bad leg injury — especially if it leaves Arizona in constant pain — could have a major impact on her life.

4. She has to go through intense physical therapy: The more cheerful version of this same idea would be that Arizona spends a large chunk of the season dealing with physical therapy and being hindered by her injury, but eventually manages to get her leg working again.

5. Callie operates on her leg: This could go along with of one of the above options, but we still think it would be interesting if Callie ends up being the one to operate on Arizona for some reason (such as her being part of the rescue team). That could leave Callie with a lot of intense emotions that she has to deal with after the operation is over.

6. Arizona is just fine: Maybe Shonda is messing with us, and Arizona recovers quickly and easily. We kind of doubt it, though!

What do you think will happen to Arizona? Let us know in the comments below.

If I had to hazard a guess at which scenario is the most likely it would be number two; Arizona losing her leg. However, this theory is not really based on anything other than information that was apparently leaked from the set the other day about Grey's Anatomy being on the look out for an female amputee for a guest role. While I try so very hard not to pay attention to spoilers and gossip, this one was kind of hard to ignore; especially after hearing that some of the production crews were forced delete pictures they tweeted and some of their twitter accounts were shut down. If you want to read more about this then the link to TWOP is below, however the link which a member of TWOP posted about this amputee casting is not longer working.

After reading those six possible scenarios; do you have a theory? Sound off in the comments, like us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter.

If/Then - Grey's Anatomy Season 8-13 - Postmortem

Grey's Anatomy in an Alternate Reality

Ellis Grey never had alzhiemers, Meredith is shiny and happy, Alex is a geek, Bailey is shy and quiet, Derek is still married to Addison and much, much more.

Recently a special episode of Grey's aired on Australian screens which took all the characters into a world where everything was different to how we know our favourite doctors today.

Meredith puts Zola to bed and lays down herself to go to sleep next to her husband. In the very next scene she waking up, hearing her mother calling her and she comes down the stairs dressed in a pink sweater with very straight hair and a big smile on her face. Not the dark and twisty Meredith we all know and love. Ellis Grey is married to Richard Webber and Meredith is now Meredith Webber, instead of Meredith Grey.

What If...
Derek is still the chief of neuro and Addison is pregnant, she also wears horrid red lipstick. It would seem as their marriage is not happy. As she and Derek continue to bicker throughout the episode. Callie and Owen are married and have three kids, however Owen seems to still struggle with his PTSD issues and is seen to be confiding in Cristina. Cristina is a loner and all the other residents seems to hate her and blame her for Dr Burke leaving.

Alex is a nerd and it would seem that he is engaged to Meredith. In the very first scenes Meredith is flashing around a big ring to the residents. April is Meredith's best friend and it would seem that Meredith and Cristina do not get along at all. From my point of view it seemed to me that Meredith wanted to follow her mother into General Surgery, however Ellis seemed to be pushing Meredith towards a career in Cardio.

Izzie and George's names get mentioned but only in a negative way, George failing the intern test and was never seen again and Izzie stealing the heart. Meredith went to her mother and turned her in, which is not what Meredith would have done in Season 2. Miranda Bailey is a complete opposite of what we know of her today, complete with dreadlocks and a meek and mild personality and Charles, the Mercy West resident who died in Season 6 was there and very much besotted with April. Arizona is the bubbly, happy pediatric surgeon we have always known, however she has Callie pining after her, even though Callie seems to be happily married to Owen and totally in love with her three children. Teddy was nowhere to be seen as Callie is the cardiac surgeon, however cardio was not her first  choice, she tells Bailey that she loves ortho. Teddy is absent, however she is referred to as Owen's friend in Iraq. Callie is under the impression that Teddy is a male buddy of Owen, not a beautiful blonde, desert barbie.

The best part of the episode for me was Lexie turning up with dreadlocks and a drug habit that she has overdosed from, and Jackson is in charge of her case. It was really a different look for Chyler Leigh and I loved the transformation. She reveals that her sister works there, but does not reveal who that is.

The Shepherds

That lipstick is horrid

However as the episode went on it was clear to me that everything that was different about their alternate reality lives would eventually revert to what we have seen already on Grey's. Ellis Grey was no different without alzhiemers, than I remember her in season. When Meredith was upset about catching Alex with April in the middle of you know what....her assumption was that Meredith was upset about the heart surgery and Cristina stepping in and not letting her finish. Perhaps we are meant to assume that having Richard as her father would've made thing different, as he did not seem to misunderstand her.

I totally loved the end when Mark turns up with Lexie in his arms and leaves her with the docs; Jackson, Cristina and Meredith to work on. Meredith picks up the chart and for one minute I wondered if she realised who it was she was working on. Cristina and Meredith performed as a team to save Lexie's life and then ended up doing tequila shots at Joe's bar. Meredith even had a conversation with Derek at the end and the girl in a bar stuff came up again. Talk about ending the episode with what was meant to be. Cristina seems to have a close connection to Owen, which is not surprising.

Mark on the other hand did not stick around to see if Lexie lived or not and went in search of Addison. He is there changing his bloody shirt when Derek arrives. Addison tells Derek that the baby is Mark's. What's the bet we see Kate Walsh back on Grey's sometime in the next two years for longer than a cross-over episode. Pure speculation here, but it would be good to have Addison back.

The upshot is that this was an experiment worth doing as many fans really liked seeing their characters so out of character. Given that the last experiment was the musical episode and that did not go down well for many reasons, although I will say I loved it, because for the most part a lot of the music they used in that episode was what made me fall in love with Grey's Anatomy in the first place. This was different and fun, but I was looking forward to getting back to the business of telling the characters stories in the real world.

What did you think of If/Then? Was it better than Song Beneath the Song? Sound off in the comments.

Poker Face Grey's Anatomy Season 8-6 - Postmortem

Comfort Zones are Tested

So; Meredith is delivering babies and using Lexie to chase a difficult brain tumor that she is certain Derek won't want to resist. At first; the previews and synopsis lead us to believe that because Meredith has been black-balled from most of the attendings surgeries, that she is chasing this tumor for her own gain. Perhaps she is hoping that Derek will see this tumor and ask her to come back to his service, which she left in episode three for the sake of their marriage. They have also made an agreement not to discuss Neuro. Within the first few minutes of watching I realised the beauty of what Meredith is doing; oh yes, this woman knows her husband, but more on that later.

Callie, Mark and Arizona are all great friends now, however Mark and Arizona's budding interest in cooking for Callie is wearing thin on their relationship as they are not getting any time alone. But for the moment Callie is trying to be happy that Mark and Arizona are finally good friends and keeps her mouth shut.

Arizona, Callie and Mark

Pink Vagina Squad Scrubs

Meredith is running around the hospital in the pink scrubs delivering babies and kidding herself that she is doing something worthwhile. Alex thinks she's working as an OB because she misses Zola, however as she tells Cristina during their meeting with Chief Hunt "I'm making life you know." I like this storyline; Meredith's career being in a lull for awhile is a good direction given what she did when she destroyed the clinical trial. Cristina tells Meredith that she cannot wear the pink scrubs in public, "We have standards Meredith." At the same time Cristina is sending sexy text messages to her husband. What did I say last week? These two are never going to talk by the looks of things, Cristina would rather bury their issues and have sex and it seems as though Owen's not complaining. Owen has just finished lecturing the group about bad outcomes in their OR's and how these bad outcomes can affect their boards later on. In-fact it is because of this lecture that Cristina and Alex both stuff up during their surgerys'.

Later on when Cristina is discussing a case she is on with Callie, the issue of hot, dirty sex comes up and Callie confides that her and Arizona are not getting enough alone time. She admits that she's jealous of Cristina. The bringing together of Callie and Cristina was great and way overdue. I have missed the friendship between these two. If we think back, they were room-mates for quite awhile. In the OR when Cristina's phone goes off and Callie insists that the scrub nurse read the message aloud in case it is urgent, Cristina's obvious panic when she tells the nurse not to touch the phone, but to turn it off is hilarious.

Derek complains to Owen about Lexie, she is not cutting it as his intern. Lexie asks Meredith for help, but Meredith tells her that she has to learn his quirks, and she needs to learn on her own. Derek is frustrated and probably regetting agreeing to Meredith leaving his service, however at the end of this episode, it is clear that her decision is best for their marriage. Lexie tries to get Derek to see her tumor patient, however Derek refuses saying the tumor is inoperable and that Lexie needs to do what he tells her, so Lexie gives up. Meredith confronts Lexie naked in the shower and explains that Derek needs to see the scans and meet the patient. So the next day Lexies shoves the scan in his face saying "Butterfly tumor!" Derek looks at scan and the next thing we know they are consulting with the patient. Derek orders new scans be run, and when they come back he tells Mary the patient; that he can remove the tumor. It's risky, but he thinks he can get it all. Mary's husband freaks out and says No. Meredith tracks him down later on and convinces him to let his wife fight for more time with her family. So no thanks to Lexie, this surgery happens and it turns out to be successful. For the first time this season with the exception of episode 1 and 2, we were treated to an emotional case in which we got to know the patient and their story.

Derek and Lexie meeting with Mary and her husband and Derek after a difficult surgery

Unfortunately Cristina and Alex did not do so well. They were both so afraid of getting bad outcomes that they put their fears first and the patient's well being second. Cristina constantly nagged Callie to do a more conservative procedure on their neck patient, and Alex refused to do a TAVI on his heart patient. Cristina became so freaked about the neck surgery that she asked to be taken off the case. All goes well and the patient's neck surgery is a success. Callie lectures Cristina in the scrub room after the surgery, simply telling her not to let fifth year get to her. Alex on the other hand ends up getting kicked off his surgical case. His patient going over his head to Teddy and asking her to look into doing a TAVI on him. Alex did not put his patient first when researching options for the procedure, Teddy obviously decided that the patient was a good candidate for a TAVI and chose to do the procedure. By the way, did anyone recognise the patient, it was Lee Majors, probably most famously known as the 'Six Million Dollar Man' in the seventies. He's still looking good.

Teddy and Alex talking to their heart patient and Callie and Cristina's neck patient

Hot, Dirty, Stand on my Head Sex

Given Cristina and Owen's obvious issues regarding the abortion, obviously now is the time to sex it up and sex it up they did, getting caught by the ex-chief twice. Anyone get the feeling Webber was feeling a little nostalgic about his younger days getting in on with Ellis Grey. I did; maybe that's my overactive imagination. When Meredith asks if they are talking or just having sex, Cristina says "Who cares if we talk." Meredith can't help but ask if Cristina really does stand on her head and Cristina answers "I'm very talented." As nice as it was to see them getting along for all the Crisowen fans and shippers, I hate to be the bearer of bad news. Make the most of their short lived happiness because certain events will cause their marriage to go to a very dark place.

And I can't end this review without mentioning Bailey and April. I am starting to get fed up with Bailey's cranky mood, and April; while I am still not comfortable with her as Chief resident, she is certainly getting some of the residents to listen to her. Forcing Meredith to work on the diabetes trial was classic, however I don't think it took much to convince Meredith to do it, she loves a challenge and when Bailey discovers that Meredith is doing April's work, well she is furious, however after Meredith imploring that Bailey read her research, Bailey pages Webber to tell him that some of the mice are sick and Meredith Grey figured it out, unaware that Webber and Meredith are working behind her back. Webber sends her home telling her not to worry, that help will turn up. I am also less convinced now that there will be a romance with Alex and April after their interaction over Alex covering the ER and I have to say she successfully put Lexie, Jackson and Alex in their place later on at Joe's Bar, so perhaps April needs time, she does do the funny so well however, and I would really like to see more of that.

So Meredith ends up with a happy husband who almost wants to break their rule and talk about his day, however Meredith knowing better; discourages him and they start making out instead. Looks like this marriage is back on track; finally. So Meredith's goal was marital harmony for her and Derek and given they are trying to get Zola back, she is behaving like the smart woman we know she is at the moment.

Alone and together at last

Callie arrives home after a successful day at work with beer and pizza. Mark and Arizona have just finished making dinner, but Callie dumps the dinner in the bin and nicely tells Mark to beat it. She tells him he's babysitting so that she and Arizona can eat pizza, drink beer and talk about Callie's surgery and have sex, not necessarily in that order because Marks gets it and leaves and as soon as he does they start making out.

Cristina meets Owen in the ambulance bay where he informs her that they can't have sex in the hospital anymore. She says "Whatever." Owen suggests they go get dinner, which suggested to me that he wanted to talk; however Cristina's suggests they go home and have sex, Owen agrees. The opportunity was there for them to talk; obviously they don't want to. Oh dear.

Derek and Meredith happy together finally

Highs: Derek and Meredith being in a better place now. Cristina's quote "Hot, dirty stand on my head sex." and then "I'm very talented." She truly does get the best lines and I know I say that every week but it's true.

Lows: Cranky Bailey, she and Meredith need to make up now.

Yet another great episode, Season 8 is looking very good and given that I know what's coming up, my advice is not to miss this season, as Shonda and her team of writers are doing a great job. Grey's creator Shonda Rhimes usually pitches the season finale to the network before even writing the first episodes of the season, however this year she is in a different situation. Shonda Rhimes has actors who contracts are up and she is in a difficult position of having to write a season finale without knowing the fate of six characters. How does one do that?

Coming up next week Grey's brings more of the funny with the docs playing Softball. Cristina gets a surprise; and Meredith and Bailey face off. Don't miss "Put me in Coach." Thursday, 8.30 pm, 22 March 2012.

Love Triangle on Grey’s Anatomy – Callie, Izzie and George

In Season 3 after George O’Malley’s father died, a grieving George ran off to Vegas and married Callie Torres. Weeks later he committed adultery with Izzie.

Callie Torres was madly in love with George O’Malley; to Callie, George was her McDreamy. George and Callie began dating in Season 2, Callie fell hard for George; but their relationship was short lived, as George kept choosing his friends over his relationship with Callie and George did not love Callie as much as she loved him. At one stage they broke up because Callie was sick of being second fiddle: however they reunited when George’s father became ill.

Marital Bliss

Callie and George Happily Married or Not?

Callie and McSteamy Get It On

In the beginning of Season 3 Callie breaks up with George. After work Callie heads to Joe’s bar for a drink where she runs into Dr Mark Sloan (McSteamy); world famous plastic surgeon who has just joined the staff at Seattle Grace. Callie ends up in bed with Mark and in the morning light she realises sleeping with Mark was a big mistake.

Meanwhile George has decided that he really wants to be with Callie and is trying to win her back. Callie will not talk to him, she feels guilty about her night with McSteamy and she is afraid of being hurt. Callie also knows that she needs to tell George the truth about her night with Mark, but Alex Karev beats her to it; having overheard a conversation between Mark and Callie. George doesn't believe it at first, but Alex is pretty convincing.

George’s Father is Admitted to the Hospital

George is paged to the ER by Callie who informs him that his Dad was in a accident in which he broke his collarbone. George misunderstands and thinks Callie wants to talk to him, but Callie interrupts to tell him about his father. It is later on discovered that George’s father has stage 3 stomach and esophagus cancer. To make matters worse Mr O’Malley also needs a heart valve replacement to ensure he is strong enough to survive the cancer surgery. Callie is determined to be there for George and his family, at the same time Callie is unaware that George knows about her night with McSteamy. When he confronts Callie about this, she tells him that she would never betray him; that she and George were broken up.

Sadly Mr O’Malley does not survive the cancer surgery; he never wakes up from the anesthesia. His body goes into organ failure and the family agrees to let him go in peace. George deals with his grieving by becoming a sex machine, which freaks Callie out, and Callie asks Izzie to help her look after George. Eventually Callie tells George she can’t have sex anymore and George gets down on one knee and proposes marriage. They run off to Vegas and seal the deal.

Izzie is Less Than Supportive of the Marriage

When Callie and George return to work and break the news to everyone; Izzie literally turns into Miss Bitch. Callie shows off her ring to the group and Izzie grabs her hand and says, “Wow, tiny diamonds are great, at least you know no-one will steal it.” Alex and Cristina are pulling faces in the background. Bailey steps in and assigns the interns to their cases. She tells Callie and George to take no notice of their jealousy and congratulates them again. However it is clear that Izzie has a real problem with George and Callie’s marriage. Later in the locker room Izzie asks Callie: “You’re not moving in; are you?” George loses it with Izzie, and yells “If you’re determined to drive Callie off you’ll do it and then I’m gone too.” Izzie is speechless for once. After watching that scene; so was I. This was a nasty side of Izzie I'd never seen before.

She'll Make It!

I had trouble watching this story arc because Izzie is a well-loved character as far as the fans are concerned, however this storyline caused many fans to hate Izzie. George effectively tells her to back off, but does she? No. Izzie keeps up her snide and nasty comments towards Callie, and eventually this blows up into a huge fight between Callie and George which ends with Callie kicking George out of their hotel room. He runs to Izzie, and tells her he needs to vent with alcohol, one thing leads to another and they end up sleeping together. George is so drunk he doesn’t remember at first, and Izzie is convinced that it means something because it was really great sex.

Izzie Feels Guilty; But She Wants George

Despite Izzie’s guilty feelings, she is convinced that George is the man for her. She tells herself that their love-making was something falling into place. Seems like she has forgotten all about George's wife Callie. When George remembers he confronts Izzie, and at first they are speechless. They meet up later in the locker room to talk. George realises that Izzie expects George to tell Callie so they can be together. George refuses to hurt Callie in this way and he chooses to remain in his marriage. Izzie is heartbroken, and does not accept George’s decision. Despite George telling Izzie to leave it alone, she refuses to listen and hounds George tirelessly.

About Last Night...

George tells Izzie to back off

Izzie’s inability to accept George’s decision did not portray her character in a positive light. To the viewers she was a home-wrecker. Whether George’s marriage is a mistake or not is none of Izzie’s business, it is up to George to sort out his own feelings. George does not believe in divorce, so the thought of ending his marriage is very painful and if Izzie really was his best friend she would back off and let it be. Izzie is convinced that her best friend George is now the love of her life and George is confused about his feelings too. I can't tell you how much I disliked Izzie in these scenes, and I doubt Katherine Heigl liked it either. However it takes a lot of talent to play the villian, some actors love playing the bad guy because it makes their character interesting.

George Applies for a Transfer to Mercy West Hospital

Because George was feeling confused about his marriage and his feelings for Izzie he applies for a transfer to Mercy West’s surgical program. He tells Izzie he cannot be there at Seattle Grace and see her everyday. Izzie tells George that he’s making a mistake, as does Bailey in no uncertain terms. Izzie decides the only way to keep George from leaving is to tell him that she doesn’t have feelings for him. In the scrub room after surgery Izzie tells George that she’s not in love with him. Later on George is getting dressed for Burke and Christina’s wedding in the locker room and Izzie comes into the room. While helping George fix his tie; Izzie tells him she is in love with him. At that moment the other interns walk in and start getting changed for the wedding. Patricia come in and hands out the intern exam results. George looks at his results and sees that he has failed the exam; he does not say anything to the others.

I'm In Love With You

"I'm in love with you George."

He skips the wedding and goes to talk to Bailey who advises him to repeat his intern year. He tells Bailey he can’t do that, and goes off to clean his locker out. He is about to leave when the new interns walk in and one of them stops to talk to him, he realises she is Meredith Grey’s half sister; Lexie. At the same time Burke is telling Christina he can’t marry her and Season 3 comes to an end.

George Returns to Seattle Grace to Repeat his Internship

When Grey’s Anatomy returns in Season 4, George has decided to repeat his intern year, however he still has not figured out what to do about his marriage. He goes to the basement to find Meredith to warn her about Lexie, her half-sister; however he doesn’t get the words out because Izzie is firing questions at him about what he did while on vacation. Izzie’s constant pressure is not what George needs at the moment. At the end of the first episode George goes to Izzie and tells her he loves her too, but we all know the truth. Izzie and George are not a match made in heaven. George most likely only thinks he loves Izzie because it is possibly the only way he can rationale cheating on his wife. Whether George loves Callie or not, it is not in his nature to cheat on anyone.

Izzie Serious?

Izzie struggling with her guilt

When the others find out, it is obvious that Christina is upset with Izzie and given that Christina was left at the altar it is not surprising. Izzie tries to justify her actions, but Christina will not let her off the hook. Izzie argues that Meredith slept with a married man and Christina was okay with that. However we all know that Meredith did not know Derek was married and Izzie is grasping at straws. Some fans may think Christina was being mean and unreasonable, however it makes sense to me. You don't mess with someone who is married. George eventually tells Callie the truth and at first she tries to forgive him, however she finds this impossible and they go their separate ways. Things are tense with Callie and George, however it does not take long before they are talking again.

George and Izzie’s Chance at Love is Ruined

This changed George and Izzie’s friendship forever. George crashes at the hospital and stays away from Izzie for awhile out of respect for Callie. Eventually Izzie and George get together and when they try to consummate their relationship they are unable to make love like they did months before. No matter how hard they try, they cannot make the sex part of the relationship work and eventually they stop communicating. Eventually after trying to stay together they decide that it's just not their time. George eventually moves into an apartment and asks Lexie to be his room-mate.

Izzie and Georges’ so called once in the lifetime love affair fizzles out within a week. Pretty sad that a marriage had to be destroyed so George and Izzie could find this out. If Callie and Georges’ marriage was not to be, then it would have run its course and ended eventually. Most fans were upset by Izzie’s interference in George’s business and not many fans were happy with George and Izzie getting together. Alex Karev has always been the one that Izzie loved, and at the end of Season 5 Izzie married Alex.

Izzie’s Attitude Was Completely Out Of Character

George and Izzie were only ever meant to be best friends and Izzie’s non acceptance of George’s decision was totally out of character. Izzie is a happy, caring and giving person who is supposed to be catholic. At one stage she goes to confession; so why would a good catholic girl deliberately break up a marriage, which is what she did. Izzie may not see it this way, from her point of view her and George were in it together, however even George told her it had nothing to do with her. It was up to him to sort out his marriage with Callie. Izzie still did not get it; she kept on pushing. Obviously she did not ruin their marriage all by herself, Callie and George played their own parts in their marriage failing. Izzie's interference made her look like the bad guy in all of this and after this storyline happened, I never felt the same way about Izzie again. I think a lot of fans felt this way.

Callie is not happy

Katherine Heigl was brilliant during the cancer storyline, and this helped her character immensely. However when she walked away from Alex the first time in Season 6; all that work came undone. In-fact many fans called it “life imitating art.” And this a result of what is being written in the tabloid press previously and more recently.

Recently TV Fanatic reported Katherine Heigl has asked the creators of Grey’s Anatomy to come back and reprise her role as Izzie Steven’s; so perhaps we will get a chance to see the Izzie of old.
