The Hollywood Reporter - Cristina Will Help Owen Find His Person?

Well Grey's fans, interesting times indeed coming up on Grey's Anatomy next season. I just cannot wait. The Hollywood Reporter spoke to Kevin McKidd yesterday and below is what he said about Season 10.

Kevin McKidd used to always believe that Cristina and Owen were MFEO on ABC's Grey's Anatomy, but following the couple's emotional split in the season-nine finale, that may no longer be the case.

"Should we hold out for Owen and Cristina being a couple? I don't know anymore," the actor behind Dr. Owen Hunt tells The Hollywood Reporter of the couple's long-term prospects.

In the ninth-season finale, Cristina broke things off with Owen for what seems like the final time in the duo's tumultuous relationship when she realized that she was the only person standing in the way of Owen following his dream of becoming a father.

"Cristina has given him this huge gift and she, in a way, helps him at the beginning of the season -- pushing him toward it in a very loving way," McKidd says, noting he'll still have just as many scenes with co-star Sandra Oh (Cristina) as he did when the pair were an on-screen item. "She's going to be helping him navigate new waters, trying to find a person who's going to be the person who has a kid with him. She's definitely encouraging him. He's definitely going to explore how he's going to construct a world and a life to become a father, and Cristina is trying to encourage him.

McKidd notes that the couple's most recent split -- which came after Cristina and Owen divorced so the former could reap the financial windfall from the plane crash settlement -- represents their most adult breakup and one that even Owen didn't protest.

"Owen tried to convince himself because he loves her so much that he doesn't want to be a father. He tried to convince himself of the fact that he can do without being a dad as long as he has Cristina," he says. "Then the complication comes when Ethan shows up, and Cristina, because she's a sharp cookie, can see what's going on -- that he's in denial because he loves her. The sad fact is this breakup is the first time they've broken up in an adult way and for an adult reason, ever. She's seen what he needs and is ready to give it to him, and sadly that means breaking apart."
The season 10 premiere picks up immediately where last season ended, with the hospital in the thick of a crisis from the super storm that soaked Seattle, causing everyone working in close quarters to manage the crush of patients.

So people what do you all think of this, can they work it out, will Owen try to work it out and get Cristina back? Are you hoping to see them back together or do you think it's over for Owen and Cristina. I would love to hear your opinion. Hit the comments or connect via Twitter or Facebook.

Season 10 of Grey's Anatomy premieres on Thursday the 26th September 2013 in a double episode. I don't know about all of you, but I cannot wait. I also seems as though we will be shown 12 new episodes before the Christmas Hiatus, and Grey's will return for the second half of the season on February 27, 2014. That will be awesome not to have too many repeat episodes. I know that most fans get sick of those.

Too Many Grey's Anatomy Spoilers Or Not Enough?

Is Shonda Rhimes talking about the upcoming season of Grey's Anatomy more than usual? I think she is. In the lead up to the Season 8 finale; in my opinion Shonda was very vocal than she has been in the past. When you compare it to the lead up to the Season 7 finale; Shonda and her team were pretty quiet. And to make it worse, word leaked about the contract negotiations of the original stars, which more or less spoiled a lot of the suspense for many fans, including myself. The contract negotiations of the original stars dictated the story arcs; this should never have happened, however that's different story altogether.

Grey's Anatomy Season 8 Cast photo

I didn't start reading spoilers and watching previews until a friend directed me on how to to watch Season 7 online (or download it), instead of having to wait more than six months to see it in Australia. During the six seasons that I waited patiently until February for my favourite show to premiere in Australia, I do not remember much being said about what was coming next on Grey's Anatomy. In-fact I remember reading something to the effect that Shonda Rhimes had all her staff, cast and crew sign agreements which effectively banned anyone from her camp talking about the show. In-fact at the time, I was working with someone who did have access to the show from the US and she was careful never to give away spoilers.

Ever since the lead up to the Season finale in May 2012, there have been more leaks to the press about what's to come on Grey's than ever before.
However, having said that; this is only my opinion as I did not pay attention to the gossip sites and Facebook, Twitter and the like. Shortly after I learnt how to get access to my favourite show via the magic of the internet, I began to read some spoilers.

Talk about Grey's Anatomy is a good thing in the sense that it generates interest amongst the current fans, the new fans and the viewers who lost interest in the show. Ratings will tell us that this has happened steadily over the last four to five years. The pilot episode drew over 16 million viewers, and given that it aired in the 10pm timeslot, these numbers were record breaking. By the ninth episode; Grey's had attracted over 22 million viewers. Season's 2 and 3 were in terms of ratings the most successful, and after Season 4; ratings started to decline.  The ratings table at Wikipedia tell the story. Despite this lull in the ratings; Grey's Anatomy is still up there as one of the most popular shows in the US; winning it's timeslot time and time again.

Are the declining a result of too many spoilers and Shonda Rhimes running her mouth? Probably not. Many fans quit this show because they were fed up with certain story arcs that seemingly did not work. The dead Denny sex with Izzie Stevens in Season 5 was one story that was very unpopular amongst fans. And how can we forget the George/Izzie pairing. This idea went down like a lead balloon. Why Shonda and her writers did not stick with the Alex/Izzie pairing is a big mystery, as Alex and Izzie were very popular with the fans of both Justin Chambers and Katherine Heigl.

Izzie and Alex; Popular Grey's couple

What would help ratings and bring back the long, lost fans who gave up on the show a few years ago would be to go back to the basic formula the writers used in Season's 1,2 & 3. If you visit any of the Grey's Anatomy message boards; such as, TWOP or Grey'sABC, that seems to be the general opinion amongst contributors to these forums.

George and Izzie, Best friends who should have never been lovers

The pairing of George and Izzie and the end of George's marriage to Callie was a story that should have never happened. But the past is the past and George and Izzie are now not part of Grey's Anatomy. That being said, these two actors were very popular and many fans miss them. This does not mean that Shonda and her writers cannot interest some of the fans who lost interest a few years ago. Great drama can be created on TV without jumping the shark, as the Grey's writers have done on so many occasions. Many fans were upset about the plane crash finale in the eighth season; especially when it culminated in the death of a favourite character; Lexie. News has recently come to light that Eric Dane; who plays Mark Sloan; the love of Lexie's life is leaving too. And it pretty clear from the chatter from Shonda, her actors and crew members leaking spoilers and pics that Mark will succumb to his injuries from the plane crash. This scenario is very likely going to upset many Mark and Lexie fans. If the writers don't try to capture the basic formula this show was built on and re-ignite past fan interest, I really don't see Grey's continuing past Season 9 or 10.

Happier times for Mark and Lexie

Personally for mine; I would prefer less chatter about what's to come as a lot of it is speculation and not based in fact. The so-called video links that have been released are not what I would consider Season 9 previews, only scenes from previous seasons. I rarely watch previews as I don't really want to know what's coming until I see the episodes. However, that's a difficult task given when I write for my blog here, I need to research the latest Grey's Anatomy news.

So readers; what do you think? Would you like more spoilers and what do you think of the recent spoilers about Grey's Anatomy?  Sound off in the comments, like us on Facebook or connect via Twitter.

Another Grey's Anatomy Character Bites The Dust

In breaking news today via an article in People magazine it was announced that actor, Eric Dane who plays Dr Mark Sloan (McSteamy) in Grey's Anatomy is leaving the show.

It is not known whether Eric Dane's character: Mark Sloan is going to make it out of the plane crash or die in the next few episodes, however it is believed that Mark Sloan will survive which will enable Eric Dane to return to the role in the future if asked.

It has been reported via TVGuide.com that there will be a time jump of around three months in the first episode of Season 9, however we will get to see what happened to the remaining five stranded doctors. There may well be another death; given Eric Dane's breaking news, however it seems unlikely. If anyone else were going to die, it would probably be the pilot; however even that would be far fetched as his injuries weren't critical, he was paralyzed.

So three main characters are going to be missing next season, which will be very strange. It will not be the same without McSteamy, and this news also raises the issue on Jackson Avery. If Jackson's mentor leaves or dies, then perhaps Jackson Avery is one of the characters who does leave and we see his storyline from another location. We already know that April Kepner goes home to her parents farm; however not much has been said about what role she will play in the storyline now. April failed her boards and was fired by Owen Hunt last season, so her future is very uncertain. However, Shonda did say that April would not be bar-tending at Joe's.

RIP Lexie Grey

The other news is that Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey are all going to live. This is definitely good news for many fans, however not really a surprise as they all signed new contracts just before Summer and it was pretty certain they would be back, but you never know.

Classic McSteamy pic; he will be missed

Shonda has also been very quiet on the subject of Arizona and Callie which would probably make any Calzona fan very nervous, however I am very confident that they will be okay. Events for Callie's character are rumoured to be very interesting this season and unfortunately this is all the information that Shonda has let slip about her golden girls. I really have a tough time believing that she would break this couple up and looking back at Season 8; to kill either one didn't make sense.

Calzona Fans won't miss these scenes

We will also be introduced to some new faces come September; at least two more new faces will be introduced in Season 9. No news has come out about what role these new people will play on Grey's. One is rumoured to be cast as a doctor, however that's the only information that has leaked about the new cast members.

So as we count down the days and weeks until Grey's Anatomy, Season 9 airs in the United States; I will endeavour to keep you up to date with the gossip and goings on behind the scenes. Season 9 of Grey's will premiere in the US on Thursday, September 27, 2012, that is less than two months away, so we are more than halfway through the long Summer hiatus.

Now it's your turn: What do you think about Grey's Anatomy with no McSteamy? Will it be the same without him? Comment below or you can catch me on Twitter or Facebook.

Grey's Anatomy Cast Return to Work for Season 9

Less than 72 hours have passed since the news broke that filming has begun on the Grey's Anatomy set; the gossip has started flowing thick and fast.

It's hard to believe that Season 9 will begin in the US in just over two months time and yet we are still three episodes away from the Season 8 Finale here in Australia. Many of you who regularly read my blog already know what's coming for our beloved doctors, but for the sake of my readers who want to remain in the dark about coming events, I will keep this post spoiler free. However; when Season 9 begins in the US, this blog will be one huge spoiler for some of you. So if you don't want to know, then don't read it or do what I do; watch Grey's online or download it.

Anyhow, getting back to the purpose of this post; the gossip and spoilers flowing from the Grey's Anatomy camp and the actors have only been back at work for one day. Someone accidentally on purpose tweeted a picture of table read that they shouldn't have. Shonda Rhimes tried to direct everyone's attention to a Patrick Dempsey picture that was also tweeted at the same time. And now there news from the Grey's Anatomy camp that a new character will be joining the show. Apparently this female character will be a new intern. This news comes directly from The Hollywood Reporter, and I'm reasonably sure their sources are reliable; but didn't Shonda recently tweet that no new characters were being added? And why on earth would we want an intern on Grey's, especially when the storyline is most likely going to be about our original interns and their journey forward as attending surgeon's about to undertake their fellowship studies'.

Back to Neuro?

The Hollywood Reporter also reported that this new actor will play a recurring role in Season 9 and has been offered a regular spot on the series come next Season; I'm assuming this means Season 10 and that depends on whether ABC pick up the series for Season 10. Speculation is rife that she is a love interest for Alex; which is well overdue in my opinion, but the cast is too big to begin with, so why add another series regular. When Season 8 came to a close in May 2012; it seemed clear to me and many other fans that Shonda was cleaning house, however it would seem there is room for another character, but an intern? I just can't see how that is going to fit with the current storylines and characters.

There is also speculation that Adele may die given the severity of her alzhiemers and how quickly she seems to be slipping away from Richard (her husband). However Shonda also said that she was looking forward to revisiting Adele's story come next season, which leads me to believe that she is not going anywhere. Many fans also believe that someone may die in the opening episodes of Season 9; however I can't see it. It wouldn't really make any sense and would seem like an easy out for someone who perhaps did not want to continue on.

All we really know for sure is that most of the cast will be back for Season 9, or we really wouldn't have this TV show, so I'm content to wait and see what September brings us when Grey's returns to US screens and if I'm not mistaken that is going to happen in less than two months.
