Why Does Owen Hunt Hate Nathan Riggs On Grey's Anatomy?

Spoiler Alert: The following post may contain spoilers from unseen Grey’s Anatomy episodes. If you don’t want to know, then I suggest you proceed with caution.

Well, gidday Grey’s fans! It’s been awhile since my last post. Life has really gotten in the way and I have been very slack in updating this blog. So I apologise for that and I promise that until the Season finale of Grey’s Anatomy, I am going to do my best to keep this site up to date with regular and entertaining posts.

According to Wetpaint in their article dated February 4th, 2016 we are not going to find out the back story on Owen Hunt and Nathan Riggs for a few episodes yet. All we do know is that Owen has or had a sister. Wetpaint have since confirmed that this mysterious sister is also Nathan’s sister.

Well; the mind boggles with what the story here could be. In the next few episodes, we will see Meredith struggle with the aftermath of her attack and it has also been reported that we will see Jackson and April go to marriage counselling, which I feel it utterly stupid, they should just work out their differences, but that's for another post. 

According to Wetpaint; Kevin McKidd who plays Dr Owen Hunt, told TV Line that we will not get the full story about what happened between Owen and Nathan until about episode 14, which is due to air on March 10, 2016 and that date being firm will depend on whether the ABC network choose to show new episodes from now until that date.

So; I guess we fans will just have to be patient. When I think about it though, it is only about two to three weeks away, as today is the 20th of February.

In other news, there has been a lot of talk as to who will be Meredith’s new leading man. I was really hoping Shonda would not go there for a while, as I would not be comfortable seeing Meredith with anyone but Derek, but I guess she has to move on eventually. In Grey’s time, I think that Derek has been gone for about eighteen months now, but that’s still too soon when you consider the love story between Derek and Meredith.

It has been speculated that Meredith could move on with either Nathan or Alex. I hate the idea of Alex and Mer together, they are best friends, and are not meant to be together as a couple. As for Nathan, I guess he's a good possibility, but as I said before it is too soon and I cannot see Meredith doing something like that to Owen.

Grey's Anatomy Season 12 - It's Pretty Awesome So Far

Hey Grey's Addicts,

Hope you are all enjoying Season 12. I have not written much here lately, as is the case when I am writing for clients, however I thought I should drop in and talk about the 12th Season that recently premiered in September. 

I try to stay clear of spoiler and living in Australia, we are a few weeks behind the US, so therefore I have not been visiting the usual Grey's Anatomy spoiler sites. One site I visit all the time though, is Spoiler TV, I just love that site. I have been keeping an eye on the ratings and I gotta say, I take back what I said about Derek Shepherd's death tanking the ratings. The ratings seem to be steady and quite impressive in the demographic.

Shonda Rhimes is literally on fire this season with Grey's, Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder. These three shows have finished in the top three for Thursday nights for the last few weeks, and that is a huge achievement. I can see Grey's Anatomy being on ABC TV for a few more years to come yet if these numbers are anything to go by. ABC seem to know how to get high numbers in their prized time-slots.

As for the show itself, Season 12 has made an excellent start. I am certainly intrigued to see what is coming and it would seem as though I am not the only one. I have so far watched three episodes and have enjoyed them all.
   
I guess a few fans left when McDreamy passed on, however it would seem that I was right about Ellen Pompeo. She has a huge fan-base, which is great as Grey's Anatomy for me has always been about Meredith Grey and her story. It would seem as though this is where Shonda plans to take the show too. 

Right now, Jackson is bugging me, as I agree with April that you fight for a marriage. And agreeing with April is not something that I do on a regular basis, but I feel for her. Jackson needs to think about why he got married in the first place. 

Bailey is kind of bugging me, and I cannot put my finger on why, it will come to me in the next few episodes. Alex and Jo bug too, but that's nothing new. Jo's whining is starting to annoy me. 

A taste of things to come perhaps?

That's really about it, it is early days yet. I will be back toward the end of the fall/winter season to review what I thought of the first eight to ten episodes of Grey's Anatomy.

Jesse Williams Talks to Glamour


In a recent Interview and article on Glamour written by Jessica Radloff, Jesse Williams who plays Dr Jackson Avery talks about the much hyped Season Eight finale and Season Nine. It would seem that Jesse definitely knows he has a job next season and he also dished on a few others that look as though they will be back.




Glamour: Ok, so we have to talk about what happened last week. Did you stay home to watch the finale?

Jesse Williams: I haven't even watched it yet. I've been shooting like crazy and haven't seen the last couple of episodes. I don't know if I'm supposed to say that!

Glamour: What would you like to see happen with your character and April? You guys have had quite a bit of an emotional roller coaster recently.

Jesse: I view it as a big adventure—it can go a lot of different ways, and now you have a whole new element thrown in there, which is Lexie. And Mark, my co-worker and kind of my guy, because obviously he's traumatized, and I'm going to be traumatized to a degree. My friend/girlfriend is obviously going to have to deal with me losing someone that I was intimate with, and me and her, we haven't really figured out what we're going to do yet.

Glamour: How do you see Jackson's relationship with April evolving?

Jesse: What's most important is that we trust each other, which is why, Jackson I think, trusted her and went with her when she pushed herself on to him. He got burned with Lexie. He should have known better. He probably did know better, but at least with April, he knows he can trust her, and she's going to look out for him. As crazy as she behaves sometimes, she's always there for him.

Glamour: When you watch the episodes, do you become a fan, or in a way, is it too hard being so close to the action?

Jesse: No. I am definitely a fan of the show, but I don't like watching myself. It's too hard. I will fast-forward through my stuff. I'm just not comfortable watching myself because it's not me, it's somebody else. Don't get me wrong. I watch it sometimes, and I watched it my first season, but it's just awkward for me.

Glamour: Alright, fun question for you: If you were stranded on the side of the road at 3 a.m. and could only call one Grey's cast member to pick you up—knowing they would answer the phone and be there—who would it be and why?

Jesse: Jim Pickens, Jessica Capshaw or Sarah Drew, except the last two are very busy moms who need their sleep! So, I'd probably call the Chief.

So what do we make of this? Is this yet another clue as who may be returning next season? It would sure seem that way. At the very least it sounds as though he knows he returning, and also believes that Sarah Drew and Eric Dane are as well. So perhaps all of Shonda's warnings of another death could all be hype, which is what I think. Heart Shaped Box - Grey's Anatomy Season 8-8 - Postmortem

Be Inspired By The Miracle


Australian Screening: 12 April 2012.  US Screening: 03 November 2011.


This weeks episode was all about some of our favourite medics being inspired by the miracle of a live beating heart in a box. They decide what is really important and every character at Seattle Grace was faced with matters of the heart.


Clearly Teddy was the very first of the group to  understand the magic of heart in a box. She invites her husband Henry (Scott Foley) to watch the surgery from the gallery, telling Cristina that if Henry is going to watch a surgery then this is one to see. As they hook up the beating heart to the equipment within the box, Teddy orders Cristina to babysit the heart, she objects saying she'll arrange for an intern to monitor, but Teddy is having none of that. She tells Cristina to work on her list while she monitors Heart in a Box. It takes a speech from Dr Webber and some serious soul searching to get through to Cristina. She eventually comes up with a really great list. I have to say here that I am totally loving this mentor role that Dr Webber is taking on with the residents. Last week he was the referee for Meredith and Bailey's blow up on the softball field and it would seem that Bailey and Meredith have listened to Webber. This week he seems to be mentoring a few of the residents.

Jackson ditches a surgery because of the thing between Lexie and Mark, and after the softball in the boobs incident at the game; Jackson's fear has been confirmed and the last place he wants to be is in the OR with Mark. He decides after realising that he is sabotaging his career that he must break up with Lexie. Lexie has an epiphany of her own. While helping a patient finish her book so she will have the brain surgery she desperately needs, Lexie realises that she does not love Jackson and she is in love with Mark. Lexie says none of this out loud, but her reaction to her patient's choice of ending for her characters in the book really upsets her and it's clear she is relating the characters in the book to her own life.

George O'Malley's mum is admitted to the hospital due to a botched surgery at Seattle Presbyterian. Meredith and Bailey are on Mrs O'Malley's case. As it turns out the surgery is a simple repair caused by a mistake made during Mrs O'Malley's gall-bladder surgery. Meredith and Bailey are still slightly at odds with each other, however they made some headway during the surgery when Bailey admitted that George O'Malley was her favourite intern. Meredith agreed that George was the good one. If the writers of this episode wanted to tug at our heart-strings, then they did this beautifully. Meredith is also stressing out about having to go to court to get her kid back and doesn't know what she should wear. She tells Bailey that she is useless at the mummy stuff, but not useless as a surgeon. Bailey helps Meredith by suggesting she wear a sweater set to court. Meredith thanks her mentor, and the rift between them looks to be healed. Not all of the doctors saw the beating heart in the box, but it was obvious that they were inspired by it nonetheless.
Derek with his hopeless cases idea; and Mark deciding that teaching his resident is important to him.


The ending was a cliff-hanger. What is with Henry coughing up blood? Things do not look good for Teddy and Henry. If the promo for next week is anything to go by, it is assumed someone dies, as we hear Cristina calling time of death, however we don't see anything. But quite often these scenes are weeks away in a future episode. In any case coughing up blood is a serious medical complication, which usually does not end well for the patient. It also looks like Alex and Meredith get into an accident; so who knows what's going to happen next week and in future episodes.

Heart in a Box


By the time the heart in a box surgery was over the whole hospital had heard about the miracle of the beating heart in the box being monitored by cardio-thorasic surgical resident; Cristina Yang. By the end of the day, Heart in a Box had received many visitors and admirers. Meredith and April join Cristina for lunch in the room with Heart in a Box. Cristina is still trying to figure out what Dr Webber meant when he told hershe was the key. Meredith asks Heart in a Box what is wrong with George O'Malley's mum, and the conversation turns to George. Alex's heartstrings start to ache, and he gets up and leaves, not wishing to talk about George, especially when it is revealed that George O'Malley was the heart in the elevator guy. April and Jackson are impressed. Jackson comments that it was "Bad Ass." All of a sudden Cristina gets it, and starts mumbling about the heart in the elevator surgery and the heart in a box. She goes to work on her list again.


When April tells the group that Heart in a Box give her the creeps, Cristina tells her not to talk about her that way. April thinks Cristina is nuts, and leaves the room. A bit later Jackson returns to sit and look at the heart in the box after Webber has told him that he is a fool for ditching the surgery with Mark. Jackson wants to know what is so special about Heart in a Box, so he asks Cristina and she explains that once you understand how much of a miracle it is that the heart in the box has never stopped beating, never stopped living, you will truly realise what's really important to you. Cristina shows Jackson her list and says "If I look at my list and that surgery is not half the miracle that Heart in a Box is, then it is not worth my time." Jackson stares at the box and tries to see what Cristina is seeing. After quietly watching the heart Jackson admits to himself that he and Lexie are over. When Lexie answers his page Jackson tells her they are over. Lexie tells him there is nothing going on with Mark, but Jackson insists there is and he will not sacrifice his career anymore and can Lexie really tell him that he should not choose Mark and his surgical career. Lexie is predictably silent. This scene did not leave me sad; in-fact it was a relief to see. Their farce of a relationship that has gone on for almost a year is over and now Lexie has to face her feelings for Mark.

In all honesty, this episode kind of dragged along a little. There no full on drama scenes, except for the brain surgery when Lexie's patient takes a turn for the worse and develops a brain bleed. Not to worry; the next couple of episodes will more than make up for it. Things really start to heat up next week.


Heart Shaped Box was well written and thought out and the intention to grab the viewers heart-strings was achieved with many of the characters. I especially loved the end where Alex admits that talking about George brings back memories of Izzie, and it makes him feel sad and depressed. The cliff-hanger with Henry was nicely done.


Best bits:  Bailey and Meredith talking about George. Meredith's quote: "He was the good one." was so true.
Alex's speech at Joe's bar at the end of the episode.

Worst bits: Henry coughing up blood; I have come to like Henry, but I think we all knew his days at Grey's Anatomy were numbered from the start.


Well that's it for this week. Still no word on the status of the six original's contracts' however some are predicting the Season 9 may be the last, as there are whispers that they have only been asked to sign for next season. Some are predicting that Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey will come back, as they have said they want to return. The big worry is if Sandra Oh and Justin Chambers will sign on again as they are extremely popular and many fans believe the show will suffer without them. The hope is that we have an answer before Season 8 wraps for the summer, which is only weeks away from happening. The last couple of episodes are being filmed now. Shonda Rhimes recently revealed that she has just finished writing the finale as of a few days ago and it's good to go.

Solo Surgeries and Competition Thrive on Grey's Anatomy

Meredith narrates: “You work, you study, you prepare. Months and years leading to one day, the day when you step up. On that day you have to be ready for everything, but there's one thing you can never quite prepare for. A day when you step down.”

The surgical residents rotate in as lead surgeons for the first time in this latest episode of Grey's. Competition thrives when Meredith suggests that the resident with the worst outcome of the day gets to teach skills labs for a month. No-one is keen to teach interns in the skills lab, so it seems like a good idea, although April does not seem to agree that it is such a hot idea. Is she crazy? This is the reason I am not happy with this character in the role of Chief resident. She should know that to get the residents on her side that she should be giving them what they want.

 

It was clear from the beginning that Meredith would rock her surgery, despite her doubting moments mostly because of Derek still behaving like an ass and Dr Webber's concern about Meredith and Derek not communicating. Meredith had one of the most difficult surgeries of the group, clipping an aneurysm in someone's brain can't be easy. Cristina's heart surgery probably ran a close second. Jackson had a cleft palate surgery on a young child, Alex had a bowel re-section and April had a knee replacement.

April was unable to perform her first solo surgery because she was unable to find a junior resident or intern to assist on Alex's sugery and has to do it herself. I question this because she was teaching a skills lab full of interns; surely one intern could have missed the skills lab to scrub in with Alex. In-fact Alex ordered April to do everything regarding his patient, but stopped short of getting her to do the procedure for him. He was meant to be operating on a kid, however he switched out of nervousness, because he knew he was too nervous to be operating on a kid. In the end the bowel patient had way too much damage and Alex was forced to close him up and let him go. April told him that he had done everythingcould do and that the patient's family may not understand, but she did. This was a nice side of April, but certainly not Chief resident material. It felt like the writers are setting us up for an April/Alex romance.

 

Jackson think he's all that

Jackson is taken down a peg or too by Arizona, and in the end manages to let Arizona psyche him into agreeing to let Mark Sloan do the procedure. I had a feeling this "Gunther" thing would only last a week. Arizona could see that Jackson was in over his head, but Jackson çouldn't. Clearly when Jackson hands the procedure to his attending, he knew it too; just in time. I am not a Jackson Avery fan; so I was pretty hay to see Arizona taking him down and it felt deserved too, given the way he rudely turned his back on her while she was talking to him, even complimenting him. Arrogant yes; a great surgeon; well that remains to be seen.

OR 3; I Love OR 3.


Cristina's surgery was an absolute hoot. Her patient ended up presenting over-night with symptoms of appendicitis, which her interns did not diagnose because even though the patient complained of stomach pain, not one of them examined her abdomen. Cristina lectures them and send the patient to CT. Appendicitis is diagnosed and Cristina is keen to refer the patient to General surgery for the appy, however Teddy insists Cristina does the surgery, reminding Cristina that it's good to go back to the basics. Problem is Cristina does not remember all the steps to performing an appendectomy. Cristina knows she can rock a valve replacement, which is what she was originally doing, but an appy. She tracks down the interns in the skills lab and has them go over the procedure with her, however none of them can finish telling her all the steps and so in the OR later on Cristina gets stuck halfway through the procedure and yells at Teddy to shut up, please! A nurse has to instruct them how to finish, because Teddy can't remember either. This scene was so hilarious and I think Teddy and Cristina are going to be really good together this season and funny.

Owen and Cristina are a different story however; they have many things to discuss and they are not talking. What is it with these Grey's couples and their inability to communicate to each other.


Derek and Meredith aren't really talking either, although Meredith is trying, Derek is snappy and dismissive towards her. Seriously? Does he really think what happened is all her fault? While the food poisoning delayed Owen and Cristina having to talk, it was clear that Owen was planning to have a discussion. Did anyone else pick up on that? And then he threw up and that was that. Derek on the other hand behaved like an ass the entire day. At home Meredith insists they discuss it, Derek is worried he'll say things he can't take back. Meredith tells him to say it anyway. The only hope I saw in this argument was when Derek pointed at the "post it" and yelled at Meredith "Because I meant that, I promised I wouldn't run." My problem with Derek is that he is not being honest with his feelings. Saying that he does not trust Meredith at work is not enough, but at least they were able to come to some kind of compromise. Although I am not sure Derek should expect Meredith to compromise her career no matter how terrible her actions were. He knows his wife, he knows her surgical career means the world to her, however Meredith has also now become a mother, and that to her is just as important. So perhaps it is okay that she gives up neuro and moves onto another specialty. Because that's what this means. Meredith being off Dereks service means giving up on Neuro. Obivously if you are going for a neuro fellowship, you're not going to study under someone else if Derek Shepherd is in the same hospital. So make no mistake, this is definitely a sacrifice for Meredith.

I Lost Zola too (or did you forget that Derek?) 

Meredith did rock her surgery. She was calm and composed whilst explaining the procedure to her patient and honest when the patient asked how many she had done. Derek walked into the room and backed Meredith up saying she is the best they have and he will be there the whole time. Meredith thanked him and then asked if he had heard about Zola, he replied "No, Have you?" Meredith said, "No, I'll call again." Derek then snaps at her not to call, that they have called too much. It is then that Meredith asks, "What do you want to do if we don't get Zola back, do you want to stay together?" Derek again dismissively answers "We have surgery, let just focus on that!" No shit Derek; is what I would have said. In the OR Meredith is preparing to clip the aneurysm and pick up an angled 7mm clip, Derek says "No, use a straight one." Meredith refuses and proceeds to use the clip she has chosen saying "I'm looking right at it Derek." She proceeds to insert the clip and announces that it's holding, she then does what is called the matador move to check blood flow and it appears it is successful. After the surgery she is closing up the patients scalp, the scrub nurses and anethesiologist start clapping, Derek reluctantly joins in and Meredith rolls her eyes. I just love the eye acting on this show. Given her success in the OR, Derek really has no reason to not trust her at work, given that he knows she altered the trial for Adele and Richard. I still believe that if Alex had not spilled the beans, the writers would have gone with her fessing up the truth to Derek in the end anyway.

Chief Webber announces that he is stepping down as Chief of Surgery, news that upsets Bailey even more, and she make it her day's work to annoy Owen Hunt who is chosen to take Webber's place. I'm afraid we are not going to see a happy Bailey for some time. But I did hear a rumour that Ben is returning. I hope so because Bailey and Ben were good together.

So another solid episode of Grey's. Shonda and her team are really putting their best feet forward this season. Next week we have a special episode focussing on the men of Grey's. should be interesting.

Meredith narrates: “Sometimes it happens in an instant. We step up, we see a path forward. We see a path and we take it, even when we have no idea where we're going.”
