Meredith and Cristina Take Centre-Stage on Grey's Anatomy

Beautiful Doom Was One Of My Favourite Grey's Anatomy Episodes For Season Nine

Some Grey's Anatomy fans have had enough of Meredith and Cristina's soul-mate relationship; whereas there are others that can't get enough. I fall into the cannot get enough category. While I love both characters and their friendship; I do get annoyed when they put their husbands second.

In "Beautiful Doom" fans were treated a Meredith and Cristina centric episode. While fans everywhere assumed that this meant Cristina came home to Seattle, the episode showed us a couple of days where certain events happened in Meredith and Cristina's lives that brought back all the issues they had yet to deal with. A tragic accident happens while Meredith is on her way to work and the patient is trapped under a car. Meredith is forced to relive what happened to Lexie, in order to deal with losing her sister. Cristina is on a difficult case with Dr Thomas and goes into overtime trying to protect him from being fired. It is during this time that Dr Thomas gives Cristina a pep talk on just where he sees her life going.

The chatter leading up to this episode was all about Cristina and Meredith's friendship and Shonda Rhimes' twisted view that it is okay for them to put their friendship before their husbands. I do not usually follow spoilers, however it was hard not too watch, given these two girls are two of my favourite characters, in-fact Cristina is my fave and if she weren't on the show, I am not sure I could watch anymore. Previews tend to be misleading and manipulative; and it's nice to be surprised. There was also a lot of discussion between fans about how unhealthy this friendship is. On the TWOP forum for example, many posters there are sick of Cristina and Meredith choosing each other over their husbands. So I'm not the only one who has this view, but I do think that they have both realized that their husbands should be their person's too. I feel that this began to happen at end of last season.

In this case however; Derek was out of town in this episode and Owen and Cristina are estranged. And the communication between Cristina and Meredith was on the phone until right at the end when Cristina shows up drunk on Meredith's doorstep. Meredith is probably not sharing her burdens with Derek because he just lost Mark; his best friend and he's also dealing with his injured hand. For Meredith it was her patient that was the realization that she needed to deal with the fact that her sister was dead. Unfortunately for Cristina it was Dr Thomas' death that made her realize that she wanted Owen back and her friends in Seattle, which is why she arrives at Meredith's, having gotten smashed so she would be brave enough to board a plane.

As a huge fan of this show; Meredith and Cristina, I really loved this episode. The difficult part for me were the phone conversations between the two. These were hard to focus on as Shonda chose to use a special echo effect and this just ruined those scenes. Apart from that, I loved all of it. Cristina turning up in the end and we are left to wonder if she is back in Seattle for good; having lost yet another mentor. Many fans thought that Meredith's display of finally understanding that Lexie was dead was not enough, but for me it was. She is not a character who cries much unless she is feeling some extreme emotions. However what is not believeable is later on this season Meredith Grey seems to have forgotten she even had a sister, Lexie and Mark are barely mentioned by Meredith again. I can let this go only because she has never been portrayed as a character who goes on and on about her sadness and feelings.

When I first watched this episode I was not sure whether Cristina has returned to Seattle permanently, but given that Shonda Rhimes (creator of Grey's Anatomy) has said that Owen and Cristina will find their way back together, I was hopeful that she was back. And in the very next episode there she is in the dark blue scrubs.

With Meredith and Cristina's friendship being the main purpose of this episode, the assumption was that we might see flashbacks of the past. This was not the case and it was refreshing and different the way the episode played out. As for the high tech phone calls, that did not work. Meredith's preoccupation with her patient and saving the woman's life and then also needing to deal with Zola was really well done too. I laughed out loud when Cristina sees her car covered in snow, and was close to tears when Dr Thomas hit the deck. I just knew he was gone. It would have been nice if Cristina could have figured out by herself that she needed to return to Owen and her friends, without Dr Thomas needing to die. I guess someone can't have a epiphany about their life without something tragic happening on Grey's

Meredith Grey has been all positive and hard core ever since the crash, which is typical behavior for her. She has been helping everyone else move forward and stuffing her own feelings. After the shooting in Season Six, Meredith was all “We are fine” so it is not surprising that we saw very little emotion from Meredith. Her thirty second dance party in surgery once her patient was out of the woods was a typical way Meredith lets off steam. And the anxiety and stress we saw her patient was critical was her remembering her sister dying. Grey's Anatomy is just not so obvious sometimes and you need to be able to read between the lines.

My hope originally was that Shonda would do a memorial service for Lexie, given Mark's character got an excellent send off. Lexie fans are very angry that her character did not get the same, given that she and Mark were "made to be." However, I knew this was unrealistic as Shonda does not do funerals.

Again I must say this was a great episode, probably one of the best this season. I was excited after watching this as it seemed to me that Season Nine was going to be good.

Penultimate Episode Review Of Grey's Anatomy Season 9 - Via The Shondaland Source

As we head toward the Grey's Anatomy; Season Nine Finale; here is an excellent recap of last Thursday's penultimate episode; "Readiness is All" written by Adam at Shondaland Source. Given recent life events; I have had very little time to write reviews on most of my favourite TV Shows, which is frustrating to me as it's one form of writing that I love to do. There are many excellent bloggers and writers who write great reviews on Grey's Anatomy, so I figured that sharing a review that I totally loved was the next best thing.

Well, this wasn’t what I expected. This wasn’t what I expected at all.

That’s all I could think by the time Grey’s Anatomy‘s penultimate ninth season episode came to a close. Well, that and “I loved this episode.” Because I really, truly did.

Talk about false alarms: As it turns out, Meredith’s little slip down the stairs did not spell doom for Meredith or child and is not the source of our problems to come in the finale regarding the birth of McBaby. But that sure didn’t make it any less difficult to watch the scene where Meredith took a pretty harsh tumble down the stairwell and I just about lost it watching Ellen Pompeo’s acting as her face turned to horror and helplessness at realizing what just happened and what it could mean for the baby inside.

Another false alarm? Alex wasn’t the one who beat Chest Peckwell to a pulp, leaving him in the hospital and potentially leading to a dark, dark path. I really, honestly thought for a good chunk of this episode that that is exactly where they were going with this: Alex beat Chest Peckwell to death and now he’s going to go to jail. All I could think was “No. NO WAY.” So color me surprised when it turns out that not only did Alex not beat Chest – Jo did – but that he didn’t die either. What I loved about this storyline was how much it brought Alex, Meredith, and Cristina together. There’s been some great moments with them scattered through the season, but it feels like it’s been a long time since we’ve seen the three of them really banding together, and it brought back a flood of memories to watch them all together. And, OK, I won’t lie: I loved it when Alex threatened Chest out of pressing charges against Jo by not-so-discreetly reminding him that his best friends are the people who bought and now own the hospital. And that Chest is never going to be remembered for anything other than the fact that he beat a woman.

But has the time finally come for Alex and Jo to get together? It looks like it, as Alex finally admits his feelings to her. Of course, being Alex, he doesn’t actually say the words, but he gets close enough. She knows what he’s talking about. Unfortunately, at that very moment a tree comes flying through the living room window so we don’t actually get any resolution to this confession. At least, not just yet. It’s understandable why Alex would be hesitant to enter into a relationship with Jo after learning that she was the one who put Chest in the hospital, especially after how badly he has been hurt in the past, but Meredith is right when she tells him not to write Jo off just yet, because those two? They fit together. They just do. And Alex can’t deny the fact that he went to Chest’s home with the same intention – and that it probably would have certainly ended worse had he followed through.

Cristina gets Ethan’s dad to finally wake up, just as Owen is coming around to the idea of and beginning to seriously consider adopting him. Something tells me, however, that this storyline isn’t over yet. Ethan’s dad probably isn’t truly out of the woods and not only that, but Owen and Cristina are going to have to finally sit down and have the discussion they’ve been avoiding for nearly three seasons now and figure out what to do when it comes to children. Because Cristina remains steadfast – she does not want children, and that is not going to change. I admire the fact that not only is she adamant about that fact, but that the writers won’t allow her to change her mind...................

Sure looks like trouble for Calzona on the horizon and it looks like Meredith has gone into labour

This episode was probably one of the best this season; but that is not surprising. Everyone seems to be experiencing life changes. Bailey's troubles after losing her patients to that infection. Callie and Arizona are most certainly going to have some drama in their marriage. And my hope is that we will see the birth of Meredith and Derek's baby at the end of the finale. 

My apologies to my readers for not updating this blog as much as I used to; and getting behind on episode reviews; I am dealing with some pretty rough stuff in my life, and as we all know the business of life just takes on a life of it's own and accepting writing jobs that will pay the bills has to take precedence. This blog for me is a labour of love and unfortunately does not pay the bills, however writing and reporting about my favourite TV show; Grey's Anatomy doesn't really feel like work to me.

Grey's Anatomy Season 9 Finale: "Perfect Storm" Press Release

This is a little late but here is the press release; courtesy of the Shondaland Source; one of my favourite Grey's Anatomy blogs. Just in case you missed it; here is a brief synopsis on what we can expect to see on the 16 May 2013, when Grey's Anatomy comes to a close for it's ninth season.

Here it is. The end of Grey’s Anatomy‘s ninth season has arrived, and along with it the perils of a super storm that has come to ravage Seattle and the doctors of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Check out the official press release for the episode from ABC below. It’s officially time to start preparing ourselves for another bracing, intense Grey’s Anatomy finale.

“Perfect Storm” – Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital enters crisis mode as the storm rages, resources become scarce and patients flood in by the busload. Meanwhile, one of the doctors fights for their life, on the season finale of “Grey’s Anatomy,” THURSDAY, MAY 16 (9:00-10:02 p.m., ET).

Will Cristina And Owen Compromise Over Children On Grey's Anatomy

After watching last Thursday's episode of Grey's, it seemed pretty clear that Owen may be willing to forgo having children for the sake of his love for Cristina and their relationship.

Cristina has been saying for years that she does not want kids and has no desire to be a mother. She never has wanted to. Cristina loves kids and it's quite clear had she not gone through with the abortion in Season 8, she would make a great mother and a loving, caring one. Her scene's with Zola prove that. This is something that Cristina Yang will not budge on. She does not change her mind and for that to happen would be totally out of character and not believable at all.

While Season 9 has had it's ups and downs story wise; the one constant story has been Cristina and Owen; it is the story arc that I have enjoyed right from the start. Shonda Rhimes called Season 9, "the season of romance" and many fans criticized her; I believe she got it right with Cristina and Owen's story. We have seen constant and consistent love between them despite any work disagreements or dramas going on with the hospital and tonnes of sexy and romantic scenes. The sale of Seattle Grace Mercy West, and the subsequent keeping secrets from Owen about Cristina's and the other's plan to buy the hospital was convicing. Cristina's angst at lying to Owen, and her obvious concern for him when all that rubbish was going on really showed me that their relationship is worth fighting for. Many fans dubbed Cristina as the ball and chain that Owen always wanted; I really don't know what show they were watching.

Now we have the dilemma of a young boy whose parents were in a serious accident and about to die. The grandmother of this child has recently arrived in Seattle in the hope to help her son (the boy's father) through his recovery. We all know that the mum died in the previous episode, and it now looks as though the grandmother wants to withdraw life support to the father and let him go, however she confessed to Owen in the episode last week that she cannot take on the boy's full time care. Fans are undoubtedly wondering where the hell this story is going.

Shonda Rhimes denied that Owen would be adopting a kid; and I tend to think she is being truthful, however you can clearly see Owen bonding with the child and he is yearning to be able to do more to help as this child is looking like losing both parents and now it seems; has no-one. Will this be a catalyst for Cristina and Owen to have a more serious conversation about their desires for family. Cristina and Owen shippers are worried sick that this will lead to more drama between the couple, when we've had nothing but mostly negative events happen to them since Season Six.

Ideally, what I would like to see is for the father of this child to wake up at Season's end; and for Cristina and Owen to decide whether they can be together as a couple and accept that they have very different ideas about what family means to them. Someone has to back down; and if the conversation in the on-call room is any indication; I think it will be Owen who eventually realises that he loves Cristina and that having the woman he loves means forgoing his desire for children and a family. 

This would be a good resolution for the couple and true to their character. Shonda Rhime's was clear that her plan was not to break up the couple, she always planned for them to find a way back to each other. I have really enjoyed their story this season; but so help me, if Shonda is lying and Cristina and Owen take this kid home I will be so mad. The Cristina Yang that we all know and love since Season One would not accept this. She would have concerns that Owen is getting too attached and likely remind him that she does not want to be a mother and the angsty situation about kids starts all over again. Let's hope this issue is put to bed now, and this couple can get some happiness now, as they so deserve it.
